Just like me
This is a Shadow x Blaze fanfic set in a high school setting where the raid of the ark never happened and the inhabitants came to Earth meaning no Eggman and Maria is alive, this is my first time writing a fanfic so hope it's good, enjoy.
-Shadow's home
Shadow sat in his room staring out the window like he always does, like a dog wanting to go outside was what Maria always said. He was so deep in his thoughts that his hearing had failed him from the imminent attack. He suddenly felt a weak impact on his head and turned to face his attacker. Maria his sister, wielding a deadly pillow. He stared at his sister rather unimpressed before turning back to the window.
"Penny for your thoughts Shadow?" Maria asked him "You don't normally stare out there this long unless something's bugging you". Normally Shadow wouldn't respond or at least not fully but this was his sister.
"Honestly Maria, I'm scared." Shadow confessed feeling a weight lifted off his chest. He felt slightly calm until Maria broke into laughter. He turned round sending her a questioning glare that said choose your next words carefully.
"Shadow it's just high school." She pointed out.
"Just high school? Do you know how many people come out wanting to kill themselves?" Shadow pretty much yelled.
"Shadow you'll be fine." She reassured him "You're tough remember".
"I still don't like it." He stated "I should stay here with you."
"Shadow Ivo Robotnik The Hedgehog." She said sternly "Our father wants you to experience the life of a normal teen, meet people your own age and so do I and you will respect our wishes, at least give it a chance."
"But I don't want to leave you." Shadow complained "I don't need to meet other people."
"That's just it Shadow you do." Maria said "Look at me Shadow." He complied. "We both know I might not be around much longer." This caused Shadow's ears to drop and he looked down at the ground. "And I don't want you to be alone, you wouldn't last a day alone." She joked "and it could be good for you, maybe I could meet your friends." She finished.
"That's assuming that I make friends." Shadow murmured under his breath. In response to this she grabbed his ear playfully and started tugging. "Okay fine I'll make friends just let go." He said chuckling. Her grip loosened and broke into a coughing fit, falling to the floor. Shadow hated seeing her like this and these attacks were becoming more common. He was created to cure her but his healing abilities had recently proven to react badly to humans. Mobians are easier to heal. Turns out when he heals Maria it's only a painkiller of sorts, the human immune system flushes out the chaos energy, they aren't made for it.
There was nothing he could do. She passed out from this so he carried her to her bed. "Get some rest Maria." Shadow whispered softly "I promise you, I will try with the school, you won't be disappointed and you will get through this, I promise."
Shadow left her room heading for Gerald's lab hoping for some company. As he approached the door it opened to reveal his father, Gerald Robotnik.
"Ah Shadow I was looking for you." He stated. Shadow raised an eyebrow at this. "I've been working on some things that should help you at school, you are going right?" Shadow nodded.
"Okay good because you don't have a say." He chuckled before revealing four gold rings and strange looking shoes.
"Okay Shadow, these rings." He said picking one up "Fit around your ankles and wrists and will limit your access to your energy pool, weakening you, I call them inhibitor rings."
"Why would I want to be weaker Doctor?" Shadow asked "You made me to be the ultimate lifeform."
"Shadow if you want to fit in you will need to stay around their power level." He stated. Shadow shuffled uneasily at this. "This will also increase your stamina." Okay Shadow would admit that part would be useful.
"What if I need my power?" Shadow asked.
"These won't take all of it and no one there should really be enough of a threat to you." Shadow still didn't look convinced. "And you can always take them off."
"And the shoes?" Shadow asked.
"I call them air shoes." He proclaimed proudly "You see these jets?" He asked, picking up a shoe and turning the bottom to Shadow. "These jets will release a steady and consistent stream of heat that will allow you to hover and reduce friction with the ground, quite ingenious if I do say so myself." Shadow was intrigued to say the least. He looked at Gerald as if to say may I. "Go for it my boy."
Shadow slipped on the rings and felt the chaos energy dissipate within him. In a way this felt good, reducing the pressure within him. Next he slipped the shoes on, fastening them before standing up. They're comfortable, good weight to them. A roundhouse kick with these on would cause some damage he thought.
"Okay now Shadow, the jets react to neural impulses, just think it and they well ignite." Shadow did so and suddenly he was hovering. This good feeling of weightlessness was short lived as he lost his balance and fell on his ass.
"Take it slow Shadow, it will take some getting used to." Gerald advised "But not too slow, you've got a weekend to figure this out."
Shadow nodded and on his second try managed to stand still while hovering. Upon being asked to try to move forward he taken a stride and realised he couldn't stop, his momentum was carrying over longer than normal and he crashed into the wall. "Ow" he stated slow and monotone. Gerald laughed at this. "You try running on a cushion of air, it's not as easy as I make it look." He yelled, face still against the wall, probably because he couldn't be bothered to move.
"You get some rest Shadow, we can figure this out in the morning."
Shadow grunted and then vanished in a flash of blue light, presumably to his bed room.
-Blaze's home
Blaze was perched on the end of her sofa, waiting for Gardon to finish his call. She wished she could talk to her parents too but for some reason they wouldn't allow it. One day everything was normal, next Gardon takes her to this strange Dimension, barely managing to say goodbye to her parents and she didn't know why. Currently Gardon was talking to her parents, maybe now she could figure out what this about and why she was taken here.
Gardon entered the room, putting his phone back in his pocket.
"Well?" Blaze asked.
"Your parents miss you a lot Blaze, they want you to understand that they never wanted to send you away but home isn't safe for you." He explained. This got her fired up, quite literally.
"Not safe for me?" She growled "I am the princess, the first pyrokinetic in decades, guardian of the Sol emeralds and my own home isn't safe?" She said as the fire raged on.
"I'm sorry princess but they are barred from saying more." He replied, rather calmly for someone at risk of becoming a pile of smouldering ashes. "Also they said that despite this situation you shouldn't miss your education so you have been enrolled in a nearby high school." He somehow made this worse.
The fire was gone and replaced by a look of defeat as she slumped onto the sofa. Of course she couldn't escape school.
"Gardon do you really think that's best for me?" She asked.
"Well you might be surprised princess, you might learn something, make friends perhaps."
"Hardly, why would I want to make friends here anyway?" Blaze asked "I'm going to be leaving for the Sol Dimension anyway." She continued.
"Blaze, a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts." Gardon said "It's a privilege to be among them." That was surprisingly insightful from Gardon. She gave him a curious glance before giving up.
"Fine I'll go but I'm not going to be happy about it." She made this clear. Gardon sighed in relief, not only that she gave up but she didn't out him for the movie quote.
"Oh I almost forgot to tell you." Blaze looked curiously "That friend of yours, Marine, devised a way for the two of you to keep in touch." Gardon said handing Blaze a phone. "We don't normally have those back home but Marine managed to get her hands on one."
"So how does it work?" She asked. Gardon shook his head.
"I wish I knew Blaze." Well this is great. Her only means to contact back home and she can't figure out how the blasted thing works.
"Maybe a local could help?" Gardon offered. Blaze considered this but was too shy to even think of asking for help with this.
"I'm gonna get some rest, we can figure this out over the weekend, night Gardon." Blaze said walking off to her room.
-Amy's home
At Amy's home her parents had effectively been banished for the duration of Amy's sleepover with Sally, Rouge, Shade and Tikal. They had gathered in Amy's room to discuss the newest gossip. Apparently there was to be new people joining the school, a hedgehog and a cat. There was no plausible way that they should have known this except the uncanny ability most teenage girls possessed to obtain any form of gossip or "tea" as they liked to put it.
"Okay girls." Amy said "The Hedgehog is a guy and the Cat's a girl."
Murmurs went between them before Sally piped up.
"Maybe that means you can have a hedgehog for yourself Amy." She half joked.
"Excuse me?" Amy more demanded than asked "I called dibs on Sonic and we don't even know if this Hedgehog is like him."
"If you don't want him I'll have him." Rouge smirked.
"I didn't say that." She huffed.
"Look it's not my fault Sonic likes me." Sally stated nonchalantly "Maybe if you'd stop borderline attacking him he'd like you a little more." Amy stared daggers at Sally's smirking face before Shade decided to end this.
"Right sure, fight over the Hedgehog before we even meet him." She said disdainfully "I think we should probably try and get to know the cat, it would be nice to have someone else who actually knows how to be quiet."
"Hey that's not true" Rouge, Amy and Sally exclaimed before glancing at each other. You could tell Shade was smirking behind the mask.
"At least Tikal can be quiet" she said giving Tikal an approving nod.
"I don't see why all of you get worked up by the new guy, we've got plenty to choose from." Tikal stated "I'm partial to Knuckles so hands off."
"Yeah we know this Tikal, you can have him, he's a knucklehead anyways" Rouge dismissed her trying to hide her own affection for Knuckles.
"So who do you like Shade?" Amy cooed "Perhaps Espio or Silver maybe even Vector?"
Shade shook at the idea of that. "Espio doesn't speak, Silver's too innocent and Vector's just no." The rest of the girls glanced around wide eyed about this, this is what they liked about Shade, she never held back.
"I wonder what Sonic's doing right now." Amy thought out loud.
"I'm sure he's not thinking of you." Sally shot her down. Amy glared at her while she pretended not to notice.
-Sonic's home
"Seriously, can't you guys cut it out?" Tails begged as Sonic and Knuckles fought.
"No can do Tails." Sonic grunted, dodging Knuckle's flurry of punches, "Someone needs to show Knuckles how to fight before Monday." He said before launching a quick kick at Knuckle's knee then performing a high spin kick with the same leg.
Knuckles ducked under the second kick and used his low position and Sonic's lack of balance to take Sonic down to the ground.
"How's that Blue?" Knuckles retorted assuming the fight was over.
"Getting better." Sonic smirked before performing a quick spindash that ended with Sonic on top of Knuckles. "Give it up Knuckles."
"Never!" And with that Knuckles used his knee to knock Sonic off before they went at each other again.
Tails grown bored of this and turned to Silver.
"Feel like stopping this?" Tails asked Silver. Silver nodded before fastening his gloves and using his telekinesis to separate them.
"Okay you two, we didn't come here to watch you fight now can we please just watch the movie?" Silver demanded gesturing to the neglected tv.
"Yeah sure Silver, Knuckles isn't really a real challenge anyway." Sonic said passively "Maybe one of these days I can get a real rival." He continued wistfully.
Before Knuckles could respond, Silver used his telekinesis to shut Knuckle's mouth before looking at him, imploring him not to speak.
They decided to try again watching the movie, this time with Sonic and Knuckles on opposite sides of the sofa.
While the movie was playing faint coughs painfully obviously disguised as insults were shot back and forth between Knuckles as Silver and Tails struggled not to rip their own fur out.
When the movie, and more importantly the insults, stopped Sonic and Knuckles had fallen asleep leaving Tails and Silver awake.
"Hey Tails?" Silver asked.
"Yeah?"
"You know Shade?"
"You mean that mean echidna?"
"Yeah her..." Silver said, pressing his fingers together nervously.
"What about her?"
"Okay don't tell Sonic or anyone but I think I might like her."
"Oh."
"Yeah this isn't gonna go great." Silver complained "I don't even know if she knows I exist or if she'd like me."
"You have nothing to worry about Silver."
"Really?" Silver said, hopes high for a second.
"Yeah I'm sure she knows you exist."
Silver's hope was gone and he just stared blankly at Tails "Forget we had this conversation." He commanded before going to sleep. Tails nodded, but Sonic didn't. Little did they know Sonic heard the whole thing pretending to be asleep.
He thought of what do with this as a smirk slowly formed on his face.
Please feel free to review and tell me what to think. Constructive criticism is welcome. For those that are confused, this is the last day of the Summer before school starts and since the raid on the ark never happened, Shadow, Gerald and Maria live on Earth and Dr Eggman was never born.
