Title: No Place like Home
Summary: Rod was back where he belonged. Back to his home, the surrogate family that meant more than the world to him.
Authors Notes: Set after 'McKay and Mrs. Miller.' Obviously short ficlet on Rod's reality and his time back. Might write some more; I love these guys too much.

A flash of white later and he was back. He was alive and whole and not obliterated into thousands of pieces. And there before him was the most beautiful site he'd ever scene. Atlantis… His Atlantis.
"Oh god…Rod." The man before him gaped, eyes betraying pain and concern before vanishing to anger. "Decided to come back, did you then?" Arms crossed, and chin raised but he could see through the man as though he were transparent. He just grinned and patted his best friend on the shoulder.
"I dunno, I kinda missed your droning voice Shep. Not something I could really find there." He explained fondly.
"Rod! You're…you're back!" He looked passed the ruffled headed man before him to Weir and Ronon and Teyla. Weir seemed to be a in a crossroad of shocked, overwhelmed and relieved. She broke into a smile and had no trouble in walking over to him and throwing her arms around his neck.
"We…god, we didn't think you'd be back. We really didn't think we'd make it." She pulled back, positively beaming at him.
"So, I guess we can assume my idea worked?" Sheppard asked. Rod turned to him, looked at his friend and even through the glare could see the concern. Could see how much he really cared, really missed him. In the end he supposed his probable final goodbye could've been better than "See you later Shep." He could've given him more. He deserved more.
"Yea. The other Rodney…the others there…they did it. They really helped." And even through his dark look Sheppard manage to grin. There were claps and relieved cheers from the control room. Teyla, normally so withdrawn and shy was actually hugging him and Ronon slapping him on the back. Ford leapt foreword to welcome him back, to beam at him and looking around Rod knew this was where he belonged. This was his surrogate family. His home. And he'd risk everything as many times as he had to, to protect it.
Ford was insisting on a party of some kind, Weir was instructing clean up and yelling out congratulations while he looked back to Sheppard who was somehow managing to smile with the rest of them. Be relieved and happy with them. He grinned, punched his friend lightly and nodded to the door.
"Hey Sheppard, what say we go play some golf at one of the piers? Weir can wait a little for the debriefing."

Authors Notes: Wahah, I loved this episode to death and positively adored the idea of this reality. A Sheppard like Rodney and a Rodney like Sheppard. It makes me grin like no other. :D Hope I did alright with my short little ficlet. I love Rod and Shep to death. Who knows, I might even write some more if the plot bunny comes my way. :D
