This is a one shot, hope you enjoy.
Lord of The Rings is sadly not mine, but I will gladly accept it as a gift.
"If by my life or death I can protect you I will, you have my sword" Aragorn son of Arathorn, the heir to the throne of Gondor stated
But unknown to the members of the Council of Elrond, Arwen, daughter of the Elven Lord Elrond, was eavesdropping, she wouldn't have called it eavesdropping though, she would have faulted her elven-hearing, but none the less she heard.
She heard the oath that her beloved Aragorn gave to Frodo, the future ring-bearer, the oath that would bind him through several harsh and dangerous times.
She had loved Aragorn a long time, and known him longer still. She knew that he meant every word of this oath, "By Life or Death"…..or death, DEATH……DEATH, those words echoed in her mind for a long time as she wandered through the ornate halls of Rivendell.
"Or death" the Evenstar spoke softly to herself, she looked up and noticed that she stood before the portrait of Isildur defeating Sauron, and restoring hope to man kind. She brushed her white hand across the smooth mural. She did not hear the seemingly silent foot steps of a certain ranger.
"HA, I've captured a beautiful princess" Aragorn jested as he grabbed Arwen around the middle, glad that he was away from the tension that occurred during the Council, but he was satisfied with their final decision.
Arwen didn't even look up; she just continued to stare at the mural.
"Melamin?" Aragorn asked sensing her fear…her sorrow? He gently turned her around to face him
"Mani naa ta?" He asked gently
Arwen looked up, and spoke,
"You are going with them aren't you" Arwen said sadly looking deep into his grey eyes
"Yes, it is my duty to do so, I see you were eavesdropping" Aragorn smiled
"No, elven-hearing" Arwen smiled back
"I take it you don't want me to leave" Aragorn spoke softly
"It's not that which bothers me, it was your oath to Frodo" Arwen said as she buried her head into his shirt
Aragorn remembered it well
"And I meant every word…is that why you worry?" Aragorn whispered into her hair
"Yes,….. I need you, ….I need you to come back to me…alive" Arwen said feeling the sting of unwrought tears
"I cannot promise that, but I promise to try" Aragorn said hoping that would console her
"Please don't go, I need you, I wouldn't be able to bear it with out you" Arwen said as she felt the first of her tears fall gently down her cheek
"Arwen look at me" Aragorn said as gently he pulled her out where he could see her face
"The success of this quest will save millions of lives ... would you have it that I would live and millions would die?" Aragorn said gently, trying to explain why he had to go
"I…..no, I wouldn't, though I love you more than any other" Arwen said as she wiped her tears bravely
"Go...rid the world of this evil so that our future children will have a better world to live in,…. go my brave ranger" Arwen said as she kissed the one she loved, knowing it could be one of the last.
May the Valar be with you, melamin Arwen thought as she embraced Aragorn
Elvish Translations:
Melamin: my love
