The cornfield was a lie.

Yes, she had been wandering about this cornfield for two days, along with her companion cube. Some water in a small backpack she had. About to give up, Chell managed to find a small town when she escaped the cornfield. She was awfully confused about some things, because she had spent so many years in Aperture. But, she managed to find a job in a drycleaners that she would have temporarily. Above from her work was a small offered apartment from the nice woman who used to run the place. She eventually got used to it, after cleaning up a bit and fixing it around. Those thoughts, though, those memories that stayed with her from the Laboratories, made her shutter sometimes. She would start to question if it had all been a nightmare, but she convinced herself that it wasn't. Chell had actually lost some of her mute after remembering she had other humans to talk to.

Still abroad in her daydreams, a tall, dark haired man appeared without her noticing.

"Is it a lie?" she heard a low voice ask.

She was so startled, she jumped from the desk that she worked at.

"Is-is what-a lie?" she asked the man.

"The service here," he said. "I hear it's always late. I have an order to pick up right now, so I didn't want it to be-"

She cut him off. "No, we do the best we can to..help."

Chell looked around to find a fancy work suit and handed it to the man.

"Thanks." he muttered.

She wandered when these memories would fade. She shouldn't be startled when someone asks about a lie. She only knows, the cake was a lie.

Her work time was up, so she went up to her room. Flopping down on the bed, she attempted to get some rest. Only if she could sleep without having a nightmare about the memories.

*Author's note*

I just started writing these little Portal stories, and will continue with this. They are little stories about Chell and her memories from Aperture. Please review and tell me what I could change or, you can give me ideas! Thanks for reading my Fanfic :)
