Makoto's POV

I should've asked dad for a ride instead of having to run all the way to school I thought to myself as I narrowly escaped tripping over a crack in the cement. As I turned the corner to my school, I bumped into something. I opened my eyes to find out I bumped into a girl, a rather cute one at that.

"Hey! Watch it!" the girl said quite loudly, but I just rubbed my neck sheepishly.

"Sorry! I was running late and not looking my way I guess." I replied, startled.

The girl just sighed and held out her hand to help me get up.

"Sorry for the outburst. My name is Rin Kon. What's yours?" she asked, voice laced with sincerity.

"Makoto Granger." I answered, rubbing my neck.

"So Makoto, what is your first period class?" she asked, gesturing towards the school.

"I have C-107 history first period" I replied as I scanned through my schedule.

"Wow! We have the same first period class." She said, brimming with excitement.

The day went by much quicker than expected, probably because I had almost all my classes with Rin. When lunch rolled I sat next to Rin (naturally) because she was one of the only people that I actually knew due to today being the first day at a new school. I learned a lot about Rin throughout the day, especially during lunch. Apparently her dad was Ray Kon, a teammate of my dad during his Bladebreaker days. We also learned that we both, unsurprisingly considering our upbringing, have a passion for blading.

As we walked out of the school, a stranger stood outside, seemingly waiting for something. He stood a few inches above average height and his short two-toned hair stuck up in dark spikes. While not scrawny, this kid was certainly more lithe than bulky. Clad in a cyan semi-formal uniform, I could tell he was from some sort of boarding school. While I had -for once in my life- quieted down, Rin was still semi-loudly chattering about her childhood in China. The stranger, momentarily disturbed by the new influx of sound, eyed us carefully before focusing on me. After an awkward moment of silence, he spoke up.

"Do you blade?" he asked, though somehow I had a feeling he knew the answer to that. In fact, this stranger seemed fairly familiar, despite my mental affirmations that I had never seen, much less talked to him before.

"Yeah. Why?" both me and Rin replied at once. Unbeknownst to Rin and in spite of myself, my face reddened.

"Well there's a dish down the street which a lot of bladers go to after school." he replied pointing across the street to a lightly forested park that, until now, I had completely forgotten existed. He looked back over to us, dark eyes looking at us expectantly before he began walking towards the aforementioned park.

I stood there, momentarily stunned. Looking over I could tell that Rin felt the same as I did; Whoever that was, we had both seen him somewhere.

Suddenly, breaking the newfound silence, a horde of squealing teenage girls crashed into us. Rin, with almost cat-like agility, evaded the swarm, but I was not agile nor lucky enough for the same to occur with me.

I looked up at Rin.

"What happened?" I asked groggily, struggling to get up.

"Hey, watch it loser!" one of them responded.

"You watch it!" I replied angrily to the speaker. While Dad always taught me to never hit girls, after that response this might be an exception.

"Have you seen Gou?" another one asked.

"Gou?" Rin asked the girl, baffled. Meanwhile Makoto was arguing with the previous speaker about the proper way to talk to people when they've fallen down.

"Yeah, Gou Hiwatari. He's a sophomore from the British School." the girl replied.

The British School? I'm pretty sure that's an international school. I thought as I continued arguing with this... this priss.

"No, I don't recall seeing him anywhere." Rin replied.

"Okay! Thanks anyways!" the girl said, dragging the one who was arguing with me away as Rin held me back.

Unfortunately, between the stranger and "Miss Priss," as I dubbed her, our entire lunch period was gone. Rin and I both decided to ask around our last two periods about who this Gou Hiwatari was.

I can't help but think that there's something familiar with his name.

For fifth period Rin and I had chemistry together, so naturally we became lab partners. The entire period was students paying attention to their phones while the teacher talked absentmindedly while writing on the white board, seemingly either disregarding or not noticing the lack of attention the class paid to him.

We learned that Gou was (as the girl from earlier said) a sophomore alongside that he was the son of Bladebreaker-turned-CEO Kai Hiwatari.

Well, that settles why he sounded familiar.

Unfortunately, I didn't have my last period with Rin. Apparently she was in Honors Geometry, meanwhile I was in normal geometry. I scanned the room. All of the other kids sat in cliques, so I sat down in an empty desk next to the only person I saw alone. A short, mousy spectacled boy. As I sat down, he looked up startled, like a deer in the headlights, before regaining composure.

"Hi, my name is Cameron Saien, pleased to make your acquaintance." He stuttered.

"Huh? Oh, hi I'm Makoto Granger." I said yawning.

"Makoto Granger? You don't happen to be the son of former Beyblade World Champion Tyson Granger, do you?" he asked excitedly.

"One and only!" I replied with newfound enthusiasm.

"My dad and yours used to be on the Bladebreakers together! His name is Kenny Saien." he stated matter-of-factly.

"Your dad's the Chief? That's awesome!" I replied energetically.

"Yeah, I'm just surprised that both Tyson Granger and Max Tate's sons alongside Ray Kon's daughter go to the same school as me. It's really quite incredible actually."

"Why're you surprised?" I asked.

"Well, the Bladebreakers are all from different countries and lived in their respective countries, until recently apparently."

"Really? By the way I know me, you, and Rin go here but who else goes here?" I asked.

"Well, Mark Tate is in the same grade as us. I had him last period for English." Cameron replied.

"Is there an issue Mr. Granger?" the math teacher asked us.

Woah... Does my Math teacher have like super powers or something? I thought we were being quiet...

"Um… No sir!" I replied quickly.

"Class started five minutes ago Mr. Granger. You should probably keep a watch as it seems you have a horrible sense of time." the teacher replied before returning to instructing the class.

Jeez, this year is going to be tougher than I thought…

Little did I know, my year wouldn't be rough because of school.

10/14/18- Decided to edit this. More chapters on the way hopefully soon. I know this is a lot to ask but I'd really appreciate some feedback on my new (hopefully better) style of writing. I just want to state again, thank you to any and all who stuck around this long.
