AN: I'm not really one for writing Merlin/Morgana but this felt good. There was so much that could have happened if Merlin had told Morgana about his magic; maybe if he had she wouldn't have went evil/insane/both (take your pick)
Long dark hair the colour of ebony.
Emerald green eyes which so often reflected her emotions; joy, anger, heartbreak and betrayal.
Pale smooth skin like the untouched first snow of the winter.
Lips as red as the rose.
Morgana was Snow White; the fairest and beloved one of all.
Merlin had always known that Morgana was something special. There was something about her; right from when he first seen her; that struck a chord with him. One could argue he fell in love with her; it was understandable after all. Aside from her beauty, there was something about Morgana which made Merlin consider his feelings about her on several occasions. Maybe it was how easily she tossed snide and teasing comments at Arthur. Or maybe it was the way she treated him and Gwen as friends rather than servants. Maybe it was the passionate way she would argue Uther about something she believed in. Or maybe it was the time she came to Gaius' in a state in the middle of the night; fearing the powers which dwelled within her. Morgana had caused many sleepless nights for Merlin. He felt sorry for her; wanted to protect her. It was bad enough being a servant with magic; but she was the king's ward. While he would have been another name on the list of those executed for something they could not control; Morgana would be more tainted in infamy.
He wanted to protect her. He wanted to save her; from everyone and from herself. Yet he couldn't. Destiny had marked them out for different paths and Destiny could never be altered or changed. They had been heading down different paths for a long time yet Merlin had hoped against hope that there was some way in which he could reach out and pull Morgana back. He wanted; needed; to save Snow White from the huntsman.
Yet he was the huntsman; sent to kill Snow White before she was too much of a threat.
This was their life now. The decisions had been made; the roads had been chosen and there was no going back now. Merlin offered Morgana the poison after pretending to drink some. All he could do now was watch as the poison took hold and Morgause burst into the room.
"You poisoned her!" Morgause breathed and held her sister in her arms.
"I had to," Merlin whispered brokenly. He hadn't wanted to but he had no other choice.
All he could do now was watch. He watched as Snow White vanished into the darkness shown to her by the wicked queen and he had to live with the knowledge that it was his fault.
And that True Love's Kiss would not save Snow White this time.
