"Deserving Hands"

Author's Note: This is based on the Easter Egg at the End of the 'Cold, Cold Heart' DLC where if you find the Humanitarian Award Statue at the end of the game, it's heart-shaped diamond is missing. Being the romantic sap I am, I decided to write something about it.

He was disgusted.

The statue that he held in his hands was a beautiful gold colour with the image of an attractive woman holding up a crystal heart.

But to Victor Fries, that statue's uncanny resemblance to his darling Nora and the fact that it had been awarded to the insect that had ruined his life stripped all of its beauty away. There was no doubt that the design of this thing had been mainly influenced by Boyle and to imagine his poor wife's discomfort if she ever saw it nearly tore his chest open.

He was nearly ready to drop the damned thing onto the ground when something stopped him.

That crystal heart.

Looking at it more closely, he could see that it was carved out of the purest, most beautifully cut diamond that he had ever seen, making it almost look as though it were carved out of solid ice.

Boyle would never have noticed that diamond for anything except that it was his 'intelligent and creative' design as part of the statue and that the diamond might be worth millions.

But Nora would have loved the shape of that diamond, the way it was cut and how the reflections it created were beautiful. And how her hands would have held that diamond with respect and reverence and how she would look at it with the same fascinated, and curious affection that she looked at with anything new that he taught her and she would happily adorn it on her neck and it would look so beautiful.

He knew what he had to do.

Using the cybernetic strength of the suit, he pulled the diamond away, only to come out disappointed when he pulled away the diamond and the right arm of the statue. He sighed and pulled out that arm, this time trying to add delicacy along with cybernetic strength and finally pulled the diamond free.

He held it in his own hand, which made it seem smaller and almost less significant. But he knew which hands deserved to hold it and which neck deserved to wear it for the beautiful thing it was.

Nora's.
