Note: this just came to me while I was watching the last Avatar episode. I hope that you like it. It was a quick write. Please review.
It's nice to have someone to talk to
"You know what I hate the most?"
The Boy-who-lived leaned back in his chair and surveyed the younger boy across from him. "What?" he asked.
"The expectations," replied the Avatar.
"Yeah," said Harry, "they all expect you to solve their problems for them, and to save the world-I mean, I'm only one person!"
Aang nodded.
"It's like you're fighting a battle, and one by one all of your friends are falling around you but there's nothing that you can do. And suddenly, you find that you're the only one left." He paused. "At least, that's what my life is like."
"For me, it's just like one really long nightmare that I can't wake up from. One moment I'm just a normal person and the next-"
"-you're the chosen one."
"Yeah."
There was a comfortable silence for a moment as the boys were content with their own thoughts. And then:
"I didn't even kill him."
Aang looked up in surprise. "What? But isn't he dead?"
"Well, yeah," said Harry, "but I didn't actually fire the curse that killed him. He did. I just reflected it." Harry paused. "Is it the same thing?"
Aang looked thoughtful. "No," he said finally, "I don't think it is. You were just protecting yourself and others. He really brought it upon himself with his actions. In more ways than one, I mean."
Harry sighed and settled back into his chair. Aang rested his chin in his palm in thought.
"I wonder what it would be like to have a family," Harry said.
"I know," said Aang, "I mean, Katara, Sokka, Toph and Zuko are great, but it's not really the same, is it?"
"No," Harry said, "It really isn't. Friends are only so much, even if they're the best in the world. But a family...I guess we'll never know."
"No," Aang agreed.
They sat in a companionable silence for a moment before one of them said, "It's nice to finally be able to talk to someone who understands."
"Even if this is a dream."
"A dream...?"
"Yes, I do remember lying down."
"But I never left the room...ah, well, I guess it doesn't really matter, does it?"
"No," replied the other.
They both awoke to someone calling their name.
"Good bye, Aang."
"Good bye, Harry."
"Perhaps we'll meet again."
