Edmund couldn't sleep. They were going to war tomorrow morning, and he did not understand how his siblings could trust him anymore. He'd betrayed them to the White Witch, just to become a prince. But that wasn't the only reason. He wanted to spite Peter. Peter had been so cruel to him since they had all arrived, calling him a beast. He'd always lived in Peter's shadow. He had finally found someone who recognised his potential.

Edmund felt so stupid looking back. How could he have betrayed them? He should have realised the witch was not what she seemed. Lucy hadn't trusted her to start with, and she was the best judge of character he knew. He just hadn't wanted to believe.

Peter realised something was wrong with Edmund. He'd been distant ever since his rescue from the witch, and now he was tossing and turning, keeping Peter awake. Peter knew they'd both have to be on top form for the next day when they fought her. Neither could be distracted, or they would lose the battle. He whispered into the night.

"Ed, are you awake?"

"Yeah, what do you want?" Edmund grumbled. He didn't really feel like talking right now. He was too absorbed into his own thoughts.

"Are you okay? You seem ... distant."

Ed wondered how he could approach the subject. He was scared of what Peter's response would be. Would he confirm that he'd lost his brother's trust in everything?

"I... How can you..." He trailed off, not knowing how to continue

"You're worried we don't trust you anymore. Is that it?" Peter sighed

Edmund nodded

"You shouldn't. We know you are sorry, and didn't know what the witch had in mind. You were behaving as you used to. You're different now. It's only been a day, but I can already see the difference. You are our brother and we will always love you, no matter what you do. Now go to sleep." Peter turned back over and tried to sleep again.

Ed felt a wave of relief wash over him. His brother forgave him, which was even more important to him than Aslan's forgiveness
