The skies had been darkening all day, an ominous foreshadowing for what lay ahead for them. He walked outside as the rain began to fall. Big, fat drops that landed on his head and sent a chill down his spine. It came, slow at first, then faster as the clouds let loose. He watched as people ran for cover in a car or a building, or pulled up hoods, put on hats, or even used newspapers and books. But he stood there, getting wet while others were trying their best to remain dry. Looking up, he let the drops hit his face as he heard the roll of thunder in the distance.
Cops were brushing past him on the steps, coming in from their shifts or going out, either way trying to get to someplace dry. He felt someone rest a hand on his arm and he turned around. A flash of lightening spilt through the sky, followed by the deep rumble of thunder.
She didn't say anything, just smiled and stood with him, watching the storm pass through the city, washing it clean.
Until the next call.
