Read the Instructions
It was a Sunday afternoon, and Kaito had absolutely nothing to do. Aoko didn't want to hang out because it was 'that time of the month', and truthfully, Kaito didn't want to know what exactly that involved. Feeling hungry (as usual), Kaito decided to go to the kitchen to look for food, and it was then that he had a brainwave. He would make some cookies and go visit Aoko! Nobody could resist cookies, no matter what time of the month it happened to be.
Now Kaito decided that he wouldn't go buy all the ingredients to make cookies; Aoko had mentioned to him a few times something known as cookie dough. Kaito had no idea what exactly cookie dough was, though he was sure it didn't sound like it would be too hard to find at the supermarket.
Boy was he wrong. Expecting to find it in the biscuit and lollies aisle, Kaito walked up and down several times, peering at every single shelf on either side. Frustrated, he happened to overhear a little girl ask her mum, "Mum can we please get some cookie dough? Pretty please?" Reluctantly, the mother agreed, and the little girl ran away happily. Nonchalantly, Kaito strolled after her and was surprised to find himself in the section for frozen goods. Looking down, he saw what was supposed to be the cookie dough. It looked awfully like dog food in his opinion, but the packaging did say cookie dough, so Kaito couldn't argue.
Once back home, Kaito unwrapped the cookie dough from the packaging and began to work on making the cookies. "Preheat oven to 180°C, and place cookie dough rolled into small balls onto baking paper, approximately fifteen cm apart. Bake cookies for ten to fifteen minutes, and take out from the oven and allow cooling for five minutes." Kaito preheated the oven, and happily went about rolling the cookie dough into small balls on the baking paper, and eating some of the raw cookie dough as well, somehow missing the fine print at the end, approximately fifteen cm apart.
The timer went off at fifteen minutes, and Kaito peered into the oven excitedly, only to be met with the sight of ten cookies, all stuck together. Alarmed, Kaito took the cookies out of the oven, wondering what on earth he had done wrong. Noticing the packaging still lying on the counter, he picked it up and read the instructions again, his eyes widening as he read it one more time.
Oops.
Just then, the doorbell rang, and Kaito opened the door to find Aoko.
"Hey Kaito! What are you doing? Is that cookies I smell?"
Kaito looked sheepish. "Uhhhh, sort of…"
Curious, Aoko made her way into the kitchen, and found the batch of cookies stuck together on the counter. She stared in amazement at the cookies for a minute, before bursting out with laughter. "Kaito! What happened?" Aoko managed between spasms of laughter. Thank goodness she'd wanted some fresh air, having being in a bad mood all weekend, she decided to come visit Kaito for some cheering up.
"I… Uhhhh… didn't read the instructions properly. But hey! They still look pretty good to me! Now we can have one BIG cookie instead of little cookies!" said Kaito, looking proud of himself.
Aoko giggled. Trust Kaito to find a new way of eating cookies.
