What is lost can be found
(A/N Two things. First, this is my first fanfic so I know it sucks and I kinda jump in the middle of the story but not really)
Dandin lay on the ground, a dagger through his side. Mariel clasped his paw, feeling the strength seep out of it. 'Dandin… Don't go. I need you. Please!' 'No you don't' came the faint reply 'You would of made it without me' Dandin managed to gasp out. 'Please Dandin' Mariel said 'Don't go! Please!' 'Mariel' Dandin gasped 'Listen…I love you' and then he shuddered and grew still.
The Next Day
Mariel sat dry eyed beneath a weeping willow. It was a bright summer's day. She had not buried Dandin. She had dug the hole but could not make herself place Dandin in the ground and cover him with dirt. She couldn't. She hadn't eaten all day either. She couldn't do anything. Just walk. Nothing else. Suddenly she heard someone whistling a tune. One Dandin had made up. She started to cry again. A mouse walked upthe path to her. 'Hello matey why are you so sad?' the stranger asked 'Go away' cried Mariel 'I want to be alone' 'Well well' said the stranger 'If Dandin could see you know, which he can if he wanted to, would be laughing his head of at you, crying over his passing on. You'll meet up again in the Dark Forest someday y'know' 'You knew Dandin?' asked Mariel, standing up 'How?' 'I've seen him here and there, been to busy to watch over him all the time y'know' 'Who are you?' asked Mariel 'And how did you know that tune? Dandin made it up himself and only played it when it was just the two of us.' 'Did you know the words?' asked the stranger, ignoring the questions 'No' replied Mariel. 'Well' said the stranger, 'they go something like this.
Oh pretty mousemaid walking beside me,

I wish I could tell you how I feel,
To whisper in your ear,

Dear sweet Mariel,
With the name like a ringing bell.
'Are those really the lines?' asked Mariel 'Yup' replied the stranger. 'Dandin sent me to tell you that, even if I am his elder. Young rip, for the one day he's been with me all he talks about is dear, sweet beautiful Mariel. 'Who are you?' asked Mariel The mouse looked at the sun 'Hmm.. I best be going. Dandin will want to know what's up with you. Do you want me to give a message?' 'Yes' Mariel said, not knowing why she was telling this stranger this ' I you see him tell his I love him' 'Can do' said the stranger 'but wouldn't you like to say it to his face?' 'How?…' began Mariel but then she stopped. Dandin had appeared right in front of her. Mariel ran into his arms 'I love you Dandin' she whispered fiercely. 'I love you' 'I love you to' Dandin replied. 'Hey' Dandin said to the stranger 'Do you think you can break just one more rule?' 'Why not' said the stranger, but only once!' 'Thanks' said Dandin 'I owe you one' 'Its a friends favor. Martin would of done the same for me' the stranger answered back. And with that, he disappeared. 'Who was that?' asked Mariel, still hugging Dandin. 'Gonff the mousethief' he replied 'Nice mouse, he is letting me come back to you' hugging Mariel tighter.
