Just a little drabble inspired by the ending to last night's ep, Neil Simon's Lover's Retreat. Enjoy!

Hearing the rattle inside of the Gameboy, curiosity got the best of Gus. He quickly pulled the back off of the game, and his eyes widened.

There, in the empty space where the battery should have been, was a diamond ring.

Shocked, Gus carefully plucked the ring from its safe place and held it up. It was understated but beautiful, the perfect choice for a woman like Juliet.

Gus turned his head and looked at his best friend, who was playfully adjusting a pink hat on his girlfriend's head, while she held a matching pink t-shirt over herself. They were both grinning and laughing, the picture of happiness and contentment.

That had to have been what Shawn was so desperate to talk to him about. Shawn never made any major decisions without consulting him, and this certainly fell into the category.

A strange sense of sadness suddenly washed over Gus. They had been best friends practically since they were in diapers, and Gus knew that the day would come when they would find someone special, get married, and start living their own lives. They would still be best friends, they always would. But things were changing, and they were changing fast.

He gently placed the ring back into the Gameboy and slid the plastic cover back into place. Then he put on his best smile and walked over to Shawn and Juliet.

"Shawn, I have your Gameboy."

Shawn lit up noticeably and took it out of his best friend's hands. His sharp ears detected the sound of something sliding around inside, and he felt immensely relieved. "Thanks, buddy!"

Their eyes met, and Shawn knew that Gus knew about the ring.

Juliet looked at the two men. "Guys…" She waved a hand.

Shawn winked at Gus, then turned to his girlfriend and kissed her forehead.

Juliet leaned up on her toes, wrapped her arms around Shawn's neck and kissed him deeply.

Gus watched the couple kiss, and while he felt happiness for his best friend, he also felt something else mixed with it.

Loss.

The End.

A/N: I totally called that ending. From the minute Shawn said he had to talk to Gus, I just knew it. And I hope Juliet's dad comes back because Shawn proposed, because who honestly believes that Juliet doesn't want to be married yet? Not this gal! I think she said that so Shawn wouldn't feel pressured. Hehehe. Guess we'll find out in February. Thanks for reading, and please review!
