A/N: My, my, it's been a long time. Long enough that all of my documents are gone. -weeps- Oh well. Quick Fairy Tail blurb, since this is what I'm addicted to lately and I just discovered the wonders of an almost empty fanfiction page. There's something about it being empty that makes you want to fill it up, you know? Oh, and just for reference (I dunno who knows and who doesn't XD), "nakama" means companion or compatriot, but it's used in Fairy Tail for the strong bonds between guildmembers. Kinda like a family.

I don't own Fairy Tail. Although I wish I did.

She's not supposed to be falling like this. In every good story, the hero is either on time to rescue his girl, or he's devised a way to catch her before she ever really starts falling.

But then again, when her so-called hero is a fire-breathing maniac, there's not a whole lot she should be expecting from him, is there? Especially since he should be defending the guild, not rescuing a damsel in distress who can't even keep a good hold on her one weapon.

Tiny sounds prick at her ears as she falls, somehow getting past the sound of the wind whistling in her ears. It sounds like… a fire-breathing maniac, actually, and her heart – which is already located in her throat – jumps at her final crack at life. She takes a deep breath, opens her mouth, and screams at the full capacity of her lungs.

"NAAAAATSUUUU!"

It's too late, it's too late, she's going to hit the ground and splatter over the ground below. This isn't the way she wanted to die – she had always envisioned a somewhat more romantic death, sacrificing herself to save her nakama or something along those lines. What a way to go. Maybe the crater that she would leave behind would entrap some stupid Phantom member long enough for them to die of starvation.

The ground is coming up far too fast for her liking, so she squeezes her eyes shut, bracing herself for the final impact.

Instead of earth, she lands solidly in someone's arms, and her heart nearly melts with the relief – she's almost ready to kiss her rescuer, be he Fairy Tail, Phantom, or just some passerby with good reflexes.

Natsu gives her his signature grin, and she grins back shakily. Perhaps she shouldn't have given up on her hero so quickly. Not when he is her nakama.
