Zane was standing on the pier, gazing out aat the ocean...again...for maybe the millionth time.

What was so special about the pier? He's there every night, always staring, and then he always goes back to the dorms at 11:15. Right now, it was 10:55, and there he was, staring again like he always does. Why?

Well that question was about to be answered, orso Alexis told herself.

After another moment of wondering, Alexis walked to the pier and stood next to Zane.

If he had noticed her arrival, he did nothing to acknowledge her presence. Alexis noticed he held his normal stoic complexion, but something was different. His eyes seemed distant and unfocusd...like he wasn't really staring out at the ocean...it was more like he was remembering something.

"Zane?" Alexis asked hesitantly.

He made no motion to answer her.

After a moment, Alexis sighed and turned to leave, until –

"She loved the ocean."

Alexis stopped and stared at the dark-haired blunette. His complexion was no longer stoic, but more reminiscent.

"Who?" Alexis asked finally.

"Megan," he answered softly.

Who's Megan? Alexis wondered. Instead, she asked, "What was she to you?"

"Everything," he said after a moment. "Do you know what today is?"

"Thursday?" Alexis said confused by the change.

"It's May 3rd," he said. "Today would have been our anniversary."

'Would have been'... Alexis thought before it dawned on her. "Oh," was all she managed. After a few minutes went by, she spoke up. "Do you want to talk about it?" she asked quietly.

He was silent and Alexis figured that was a 'no'. Then she heard him take a deep breath.

"It happened two years ago," he started.

Alexis remained quiet, knowing the older Obelisk wouldn't wan to be interrupted.

"Megan Kazekari," he said quietly, "was my girlfriend. But she was more...I can't explain it exactly."

"You loved her," Alexis offered when he was silent for a moment.

"I still do," he corrected. Alexis nodded in encouragement for him to continue. "There was an accident. A fire, at her apartment building. She saved her little brother, but she couldn't get out in time."

"I'm so sorry," Alexis managed, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder. "You must miss her."

"Everyday," Zane muttered.

"That's why you come out here every night," Alexis concluded.

He nodded. "Her favorite place was the ocean."

There were a few minutes where neither said a word. Then Alexis looked up at Zane's face.

"Did it help?" she asked.

"Hm?"

"Did it help to talk about it?" Alexis explained.

After a moment, Zane nodded. "Yes, it did. Thank you."

"You're welcome," Alexis smiled.

Zane left after a moment, leaving Alexis staring out at the ocean. Alexis looked at her watch and smiled. 11:15, as always, she smiled.

A light breeze suddenly picked up, caressing her cheek, blowing strands of hair around her face. It was almost like there was a voice on the wind...

Thank you...

Alexis smiled and walked away from the pier, heading back to her dorm.

"You're welcome, Megan."

O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O

For those of you who didn't pick up on it, "Kazekari" came from an allusion to "light breeze." The lit. translation of "light breeze" is soyokaze...but I didn't really like the sound of Megan Soyokaze. So I took "kaze" meaning "wind" and "hikari" meaning "light" and combined them. But let's face it, Kazehikari or Hikarikaze just don't sound right, and thus Kazekari was born.

I know I said one of the stories in the poll would be finished first, and I am working on those still (I work on the one which is in the lead more), but I was bored in camp today (I'm a camp councilor during the summer) so I wrote this .

I hope you liked it! Please take my poll in my profile to decide which story you want me to post first! Thanks!
