Note: It's been a while since I wrote in this fandom. I miss it. Here's a poem I started a while ago but never had the guts to post.

effervesce

.

bubbles.

thousands of iridescent penny-sized bubbles

pushing past her, against her

////swish///// //// swish /////

.

In the water, she stops thinking

........and feels instead

Narrative substituted with pure sensation.

.

Every little iridescent sphere dies somewhere

along her frame, making

gentle prrprrprop-prop-pops

like poprocks on your tongue,

before melding into the moving water

around her skin and tail.

////swish///// //// swish /////

.

Sitting outside Juice Net yesterday,

she'd seen a fish leap three feet into the air,

summeraulting,

a perfect 360 curve

up and

d

o

w

n to its underwater home.

.

Exhilerate!

.

She'd almost jumped in after it

so strong was the ocean's pull on her at times.

But reason holds her back,

an entirely human sentiment.

&One she can't seem to shake,

even as a mermaid.

.

Her mother calls it her best 'quality.'

But sometimes, as she watches the rest of them

t e a s i n g and l a u g h i n g,

holding nothing back—

she longs for that moment when it's just her

& that barrage of bubbles

where she doesn't have to think

or worry or even breathe.
