Marlene woke up not even sure where she was. This is the life ever since they've pledged to fight in the Order. They were constantly moving from one house to another. There were a lot of voices downstairs and the realization finally sunk in. They are in the Burrows today. Arthur graciously offered his house for the night for them to rest.
She can remember Lily being badly injured the night before. It was a normal occurence for them. Not all of them gets to go home unharmed. They were used to it, but the look on James face the moment, a curse hit Lily was so heart wrenching. She tried to tidy herself up, Gideon and Fabian Prewett are probably downstairs along with Dorcas Meadowes, the six of them went out last night to track down a couple of Death Eaters but they were caught off guard. James is still probably at St. Mungo's where he rushed Lily immediately after the incident.
As she opened the door, she was suprised to see James face directly above her. "What are you doing here?" She immediately asked. "Where's Lily?" Marlene looked behind James expecting the others to come suddenly. A fear was coiling inside her and she wanted nothing but to James to answer her right away. There wasn't any sadness behind his eyes so he probably doesn't bear bad news, in fact, it reflects nothing but excitement and happiness.
"She's still in the hospital…but Marls…I asked her to marry me! We're getting married!" James finally exclaimed giving Marlene a fierce hug. "She's resting right now but I can't wait to tell you and Padfoot and the rest so I apparated fast enough here. Sirius is downstairs. I wanted to tell the both of you first but you were sleeping and he told me not to wake you when I came. I heard shuffles and figured you were already up." James went on obviously ecstatic about his news.
Marlene laughed seeing how her childhood bestfriend seems so happy about his engagement. Yes, there's a war going on but news as this should be celebrated. "Well, congratulations, old chap! I couldn't be any happier for you!" She gave him another hug knowing how much James is brimming with happiness. "Go along now, you don't want your fiance waking up without you by her bed side aye?" The blonde beamed at James once again. "You deserve each other James, you're both lucky."
"Thanks Marly!" With another squeeze in Marlene's arm James apparated back to St. Mungo's.
This is connected to the Marlene's Last Minutes one-shot that I posted awhile ago. Please do check that one out.
