Fire's Warmth

A single sound broke the harsh quiet of the Organization XIII castle.

"ACHOO!"

Roxas sniffled, wriggling deeper into his bed and pulling the covers up, tucking them under his chin. His nose was red and dark circles rimmed his vibrant blue eyes. Roxas could not recall ever hating anyone or anything as much as he hated this cold right now.

'Why does it have to be so cold' He thought angrily. 'hmph...never supposed to exist, then why do we get colds?'

But Roxas new that was precisely why he was sick. The long nights spent searching for the truth of the Nobody's existence, the stress and frustration of coming up empty handed every single time, were really starting to take a toll on his body.

A dull pain hammered at his skull and he shut his eyes tight, willing himself to rest. He soon fell into a dazed, listless sleep.

Axel had found himself wandering down one of the castles many corridors when he herd the distinctive sound of a cold induces sneeze, coming from Roxas's room. With a smirk, Axel made up his mind on the spot to tease Roxas about it. Sauntering up to his friend's door, he knocked in faux politeness. When no answer came, he frowned and put his hands to his hips. Axel had no qualms about being rude, but hated it when others were to him. He opened the door.

"Y'know Roxas you shouldn't ignore-"

Axel discovered the reason his friend had not answered, Roxas was asleep, curled into a ball, the covers still bunched under his chin. Axel felt a twinge of regret, Roxas looked terrible. His blonde hair matted to his head with feverish sweat, a slight flush in his cheeks. The red head found his gaze lingering on those smooth cheekbones and slightly parted lips, from which breath was coming slow and shallow. Roxas whimpered and shivered in his sleep.

Axel bit his lip.

'Roxas you dummy, you weren't going to tell anyone you were sick where you…'

He looked around for a spare blanket but found none; Roxas's shivering had become more noticeable.

The red head sighed.

"Please don't hate me when you wake up" He whispered softly. Lifting Roxas's covers he slid into bed behind the blonde, wrapping his arms around the smaller boy's middle. He soon felt the younger boy's body relax against his own. Axel held him tighter, the last of Roxas's shivers dying down. The room was warm, and under the covers, almost hot. Axel found himself drifting off.

'I wonder if we'll be able to lie like this, without excuses' He wondered before enveloped him as well.
