She hadn't been counting the days she'd been on the strange planet, traveling around it the best she could, trying to find her way out of here. It was a warm planet, feeling almost sauna related, she couldn't help but sweat every time she walked for more than an hour. She'd stop to rest every now and then. All she remembered was walking home after work, then a bright light, then she was falling.
It didn't help that she was carrying a bag of mostly art supplies around with her. She had been accidentally picked she assumed, seeing as everyone she had met from the "Drops", that was what she called it when "New Meat" were dropped from the sky so that they could be hunted, were mostly mercenaries, convicts, or something else along those lines. She'd stop to talk to some of them every now and again, just to keep her sanity in-tact, seeing as humans were naturally an animal that needed other humans to survive without going completely crazy.
She'd been asked multiple times to join a group, saying something around 'strength in numbers' and all. She had to refuse, she couldn't stand being around people she didn't know, especially since they had weapons. It only took one bad sentence then everyone would be after you. Not something she wanted on her, so, she just avoided that all together, always slipping away before anything happened.
Ellie sighed as she wandered around the forest-like biome, climbing over a fallen, dead tree branch, making sure her shorts didn't get caught up on any of the broken branch nubs that stuck out of it. She was also careful enough to watch for any traps that may have been set-up and well hidden. Cautious and alert, that was how she had managed to survive for as long as she did without the use of a weapon.
She stopped, deciding to take a break and rest for a little while, her body already aching even though she took a small break an hour ago. She looked around, wondering if there was any good place to call a hiding spot, wanting to not hang out in the open like this.
Being in the open could mean death if she encountered whatever brought her here, they could have been watching her right now and she wouldn't know it. They seemed to be able to cloak themselves, blend in with the surroundings just like that. It wasn't fair, then again, was anything ever?
Ellie never seen the beings that stalked and hunted the other humans down like prey, she had only heard their strange croaking like sound from afar, causing shivers to run up her spine like a shock of electricity. She always heard cries in the distance before she was greeted with silence once more.
How they didn't find her yet was surprising, yet worrying. What were they waiting for, they could easily kill her on the spot if they wanted. Could they be playing some sick game of Cat and Mouse with her, waiting for her to fully put her guard down before striking? It was hard to decipher.
Ellie just wanted off the planet, wanting to go back home and see her friends and family again.
That was another thing that kept her going; the hope to return back to Earth unharmed. It was a pretty wide gamble. She'd need some sort of ship, and there was no way those beings were going to be more than happy to give her a ride home if they brought her here even though she was wrongly chosen. She wasn't someone who killed for fun, she wasn't a predator of her own world, she was just... your average human, trying to make it in life but was having a little bit of trouble.
At least here she didn't have to deal with all those jack-asses at her work, hitting on her and messing with her all the time, basically acting stupid and childish. Men were pigs.
She shook her head, black hair with the brightest of green tips flying around. She sat down to rest besides a large tree, the giant roots sticking up out of the ground quite a bit. Ellie adjusted how she sat, so that no-one could see her from the sides, only from the front or on top. It was a little bit of protection, and that was it.
Ellie kept looking around, her heart beating up against her chest at every little noise. She was alert, wanting to stay alive as long as she could, not wanting to die.
She actually kind of wished she went with the most recent group she met, they all had guns. But, nope, she had quickly slipped away like a shadow once their backs were turned. She really regretted it, for right now would have been the best time to have someone near who knew how to use a gun properly. Or had a gun at all.
All she had were mechanical pencils and thick books of paper in her backpack. Not exactly the most scariest of weapons, but pencils, if sharp enough and you strike fast, could cause some wounds. She found that out once when she was almost mugged by a man in a mask. Ellie had pulled a mechanical pencil from her pocket and jabbed him right in the shoulder with it, it went in pretty deep, and looked like it hurt a shit ton.
Yet, a pencil wouldn't exactly be the best out here, not when there were things who could kill her in just one second if they so wished.
She really needed to rest, not having slept since two long days ago. Her eyes hurt, and she just couldn't anymore. She settled herself in, laying on the ground while using her backpack as a pillow. She shut her eyes for a moment.
Ellie's eyes shot wide open once she heard growling coming from close by. Slowly, she rose up, her tired body begging for her to lay back down, that she was just imagining it. There was something approaching where she was resting.
She quickly threw on her backpack, hearing loud barking-like sounds coming from her right. She took a deep breath, quickly bolting out of there.
She looked back, her heart feeling like it skipped a beat when she saw these giant dog-like creatures with long horns jutting out of their back and some on the shoulders running after her. There were at least eight or nine of them. Well, that most certainly prompted her to run as fast as she fucking could. Her fight or flight kicking in, obviously choosing the flight option. She ran faster than she felt she'd ever ran before.
She parkoured over a log that was in her way, glad that she didn't get her long-sleeved shirt caught onto it, she didn't need to get caught up like that. She didn't look back, she didn't dare to do that, wanting to keep the idea that they were farther behind her than she wanted. It was like a scene in a horror movie, if you look back, you'd trip and fall and the killer would gut you like a fish.
She'd much rather have her insides stay where they were, not wanting to get eaten alive by damn dog aliens.
She ran into a clearing, yelping quietly to herself as the long grass whipped against her legs as she continued her sprint. Yup, she'd have bruises like a bitch later. She guessed it was way better than losing an arm or a leg... or her life, so, she had to take that.
She could hear the dogs getting closer, their panting sounding close as she ran back into a wooded area. They were right on her tail, but didn't lunge at her, nor did they try to scratch her with their long horns to get her down to the ground, seeming to stay back just enough. One jumped out in-front of her and roared while another came at her from the right side, causing her to veer left, almost falling to the ground at the sudden sharpness of the turn.
She thought about it for a moment about what was going on, why they weren't trying to rip her to shreds, then realized something...
They were corralling her like she was a sheep that had ventured too far away from the herd, trying to chase her somewhere.
She let out a yelp as the ground suddenly became no more under her, being caught in a net and dragged up high at a fast speed. She triggered a trap, and she cursed herself for it. She kicked, trying to wiggle free from it, not feeling at all comfortable. Ellie stopped, seeing as it wasn't the best idea, she was really high up, and the alien-dogs were circling below her like sharks, their mouths hung open as they panted, they teeth looking more like daggers.
She whimpered, tears daring to spring to her eyes.
"... Help..."
