Hey guys and girls, had an idea when watching the initiation in volume 1. At the Temple there were enough chess pieces to make ten potential teams. So far RWBY has only shown us three of those teams. My story will follow another team made up of OCs that will also be among the new comers to Beacon. This is my first fanfic. I'm going to be making an effort to make it as close to canon as possible. Hope you enjoy.
The view from the airship was amazing. The entire city of Vale stretching below, with the green of the forests and fields beyond. The blue sky and bright sun reflecting off crystal clear waters. All the beauty of nature, and all of it wasted on Grear. Grear Durant was all too busy studying the other new comers to Beacon Academy. His eyes roved over the clusters of people gathered at the windows, each of them having their light conversations, stopping to size each before moving on to the next.
There was the quiet, black haired female standing in the corner, with her black hair ribbon and scarf completing her monochromatic style. There was the behemoth standing the next window, his head coming close to brushing the ceiling, his worn black leather jacket doing little to hide his over muscled frame. He was one of the few in that compartment that didn't seem to be carrying any kind of weapon, though Grear was sure that it was concealed somewhere on his person. Then by sharp contrast the girl next to him, that seemed miniscule in comparison, even as she rambled on to the giant without even seeming to take a breath. The varying shades of blue that permeated her outfit and hair, just as opposing to his rust colored shirt that could be seen through the front of his jacket, and colored streaks in his hair. His gazed continued to the green clad fox faunus girl at the other end of the compartment resting against her enormous bow.
Grear's attention continued on to the two girl's talking a few steps away, one who seemed to believe yellow was the only color that might possibly go with her huge wash of blonde hair, and the other, a small mousy girl dressed in red and black and wearing a ridiculous cape to match the ensemble. The prior was congratulating the former on her acceptance into Beacon.
As his eyes continued to travel around the ship he noticed a tall redheaded amazon standing by herself, the wide berth around her perfectly noticeable. Not that it was all too surprising seeing Pyrrha Nikos set apart from the rest of the students. Her multiple achievements in various combat competitions promising that she would likely become the next shining star at the Academy.
A holo screen in front of one of the windows drew everyone's attention, as it began covering a incident that had occurred the previous night when someone tried to rob a dust shop in Vale. It went on to show a news feed of a faunus civil rights protest that went awry. Grear glanced over to the fox faunus, but looked away quickly when she began looking around nervously. He returned to looking at the holo screen which had reduced to a life sized hologram of a woman who was welcoming them to Beacon. "Great more of the usual platitudes about 'you are the future'". He mumbled to himself, only realizing he had spoken out loud when he saw the glare that a girl near him threw in his direction. Grear was saved further embarrassment when someone bumped into his back. Whipping around he saw the boy as he ran to the trash can to hurl his guts out. The girl's glare returned, though, when Grear failed to suppress a chuckle at the boy's expense.
Vomit boy was still vomiting by the time they landed, and Grear was still suppressing his amusement. The doors opened onto the landing platform and the students got their first view of Beacon Academy. Not knowing where else to go Grear followed a safe distance behind the throng of student moving down the path. This eventually lead him to a large auditorium where the crowds were congregating. He took up a spot in the back and waited for the orientation ceremony that he guessed was about to begin. He was not disappointed when Headmaster Ozpin walked onto the stage and stepped up to the microphone. Afterwards they were all herded into the Great hall, where everyone was told they would be staying until the next mornings initiation. The room was filled with sleeping mats and little else. Finding a mat against a wall, Grear pulled off his black, denim duster, laid his rifle down, and began it's dis-assembly. As he cleaned his immaculate weapon he tried to ignore the fact that he was surrounded by people and was still completely alone.
"What do you think the initiation will be like? Do you think it'll be tough? I heard some of the other students talking about partners and teams. Do you think we'll be getting teams tomorrow?" The pause was what Ferris took as his cue that Rain was waiting for an answer from him. "There is little way for us to know what tomorrow will bring. It would be best to rest and prepare." He said looking down into the dark green eyes of the tiny girl.
"Now that I think about it, it must be something difficult. I mean this is a hunter training academy. From here on out everything is going to be difficult." Rain continued.
Ferris grunted in agreement as he removed his leather jacket. He then sat down and began removing his Armatur Ursai, the plate mail bracers that covered his forearms, and pauldrons covering his shoulders. Finding the catch on the inside of his arm he lifted one of large metal plate off of his shoulder. As he continued he noticed more and more eyes turning his way, all of them taking in the lattice work of scars that went from his hands and traveled up to disappear under his sleeveless shirt. Once he had completed his task he set his armor reverently in an organized pile and stood up. Rising deliberately and slowly to his more than seven feet, he began turning in a slow circle glaring at the onlookers. The stares ceased and everyone quickly found somewhere else to be.
"You know you don't need to be so hard on them," Rain said, unusually mellow as she worked on her bladed tonfas, Ferrum Lacrimaris. "They'll get used to it eventually."
"I should not be made a circus animal simply for having experienced things that they never will." Ferris growled as he picked up his armor and began walking towards the lockers they had been assigned for their belongings.
"Aren't you going to work on Armatur Ursai?" Rain asked, looking up in surprise.
"There's nothing more I can do to it right now." Ferris replied.
Rain shrugged. "Fine. But when I'm done I'm not staying here. I'm going to go talk to the other students." Ferris' grunt was all that she got in reply as he walked away.
Excited at the thought of meeting the other students Rain quickly finished her weapons' maintenance and ran to stow them in her locker. By this time it was beginning to get dark outside and most of the students were beginning to get ready for bed. On her way back to her sleeping mat Rain spotted a girl brushing long, sparkling, white hair and glaring daggers at the fox faunus who had been on the airship with Ferris and her. Rain walked over to the white haired girl and flopped down beside her, causing her to jump. "Hi. My name's Rain. Who you staring at?"
"Do you mind? Can't you see I'm getting ready for bed?" The girl huffed.
"And talking to me is going to stop you from doing that? Besides you still haven't answered my question. Who were you staring at?" Rain replied, unperturbed by the girl's surly attitude.
The girl stared at her for a moment as if trying to process what was happening. "If you must know, I was staring at the faunus over there. There is no reason filthy animals like her should need to be here with us in a school for hunters."
"Well. That seems rather discriminatory, don't you think? Shouldn't she have the same opportunities as any other person."
"Not if that person decides to throw away those their opportunities, like the White Fang have." The girl shot back. "Didn't you see the news feed on the airship today? The white fang are an all faunus terrorist group who have been causing all manner of conflict all across the kingdoms. They've especially been causing a lot of trouble for my family."
"Oh? Who's your family?"
"The Schnee family. I'm Weiss Schnee. Heiress to the Schnee Dust Corporation." Weiss said proudly.
"Schnee Dust Corporation." Rain mused. "Sorry, don't know them."
"You've never heard of Schnee Dust?" Weiss asked incredulously. "Schnee Dust the one of largest producers of dust in the kingdoms? Schnee Dust the primary supplier of dust to the military?"
"Can't say as I have." Rain said shrugging apologetically.
Just as Weiss was about to speak again there was a loud commotion from the other side of the hall. Weiss and Rain looked over to see two girls fighting with each other. "Will you excuse me." Weiss said getting up and walking over toward the fight.
As she walked away Rain looked over to the faunus girl. "You know, you don't have to take that kind of crap from her. She's just a stuck up little princess. She's got no right to talk about other people that way regardless of what race they might be."
The faunus looked up from the book she was reading. "The best way to deal with people like her is to ignore her. She will continue to have her opinion, and there is nothing i can say to change that opinion. All I can do is use my actions to prove to her that her opinion is wrong."
Rain thought about that for a moment. "Yeah, maybe you're right. I'm Rain by the way. Rain Riverton."
"I'm Eclipse Amarantus." Said the faunus smiling. "Do you really not know who the Schnee's are?"
"I might not be from around here, but i haven't been living under a rock. I mean you can't walk into a dust shop without seeing half a dozen Schnee products in the window." Rain smirked. "I just wanted to push the princess off her pedestal for a moment. No one deserves to be that self important."
Eclipse laughed. "We should probably be getting to bed soon. There's no telling how early they will be getting us up in the morning. But it was nice to talk to you."
"Like wise. I'll see you around." Rain said as she left with a wave.
She went and changed into her pajamas and when she got back to her sleeping mat she saw that Ferris had already changed and looked to be asleep.
"So, meet anyone interesting?" Ferris rumbled without opening his eyes.
"One or two." Rain replied knowing he only asked to show he was still awake. She flopped down mind racing about what the tomorrow might bring. What the next years might bring. "This may prove to be fun."
Please reveiw. And give any suggestions for future chapters. You never know they might show up. Will post again next week.
