A/N: These are just short little ideas that sprung into my head while I've been struggling to write the next chapter for "Curse of Durin's Line". I'm totally open for asks too, if anyone has any other kind of "training" or "lessons" etc. that the boys have to learn when they're younger. Just PM me or comment! :D

Endurance Training:

Kili sat near the table, his little legs swinging off the end of the chair as he held a bowl with his arms outstretched, staring at it in concentration.

"And just what do you think you're doing with my dishes?" she said when she was standing right next to him.

He started, almost dropping the bowl before Dis nimbly caught it, "Nothin'"

"And where's your brother?"

Kili looked down at the ground but before he could answer, Fili came jogging around the corner.

He ground to a halt when he realized that his mother was standing next to his guilty looking younger brother.

"Hello Mother," the little blonde boy clasped his hands behind his back, staring up at her.

"Why was your brother holding a bowl?" Dis questioned.

"Endurance. He's got to build his arms up," Fili informed her dutifully.

"And what are you doing?"

"Jogging exercises. Mister Dwalin can't train me until I'm stronger so that's what I'm doing. Kili wanted to be ready so I'm helping him, he's gotta hold the bowl and then later he can hold a sword. Or at least that's what Mister Dwalin said. Mister Dwalin also said that I've got to do other exercises too, like pushups and situps…"

Dwalin. She should have known.

Kili's stubby fingers reached out, wiggling to try to get closer to the bowl without saying a word.

"Just… be careful okay? Don't drop anything, and please Fili, my little sunshine, don't run into any walls."

He gave her a look that clearly read, run into walls? That's stupid, Ma.

She resisted the urge to remind of last week, and the time two months ago when he'd given himself a bloody nose and simply rolled her eyes.

Against her instincts, she gave Kili the bowl back, ruffling his hair when he gave her a grin full of baby teeth and proceeded to resume his position, tongue between his lips.

Fili was off racing down the hallway in his socks again as soon as she turned away.

And she was not surprised in the slightest when ten minutes later when the sound of breaking china echoed in the kitchen.
