Chapter One

It was a normal day at Hogwart's, (as normal as any day could get at a school of Witchcraft and Wizardry). I t was a beautiful spring day, and sunlight was pouring through the windows in the stone corridors. Everyone had a cheerful air about them- it was the last day of term, and many were going home for Easter.

It was the last lesson of the day- potions, the least favourite subject of most students. Harry and Ron sat at the back of the class staring blankly at their simmering cauldrons, while Snape's droning voice echoed around them. Hermione sat next to them attentively listening to her teacher, but occasionally poking Ron with a quill to try and get him to pay attention.

Harry looked up when he heard a muffled cry from the other side of the room. It had come from Millicent Bulstrode, but before Harry could find out what was going on, the room erupted in a flow of hearts and pink shimmery sparkles.

They seemed to be coming from Millicent's cauldron, Harry noticed, and Snape went to investigate. He passed a shiny cauldron hanging on the wall, and caught sight of his reflection. He stood completely still, staring at himself.

Harry barely had time to wonder what was going on when he felt himself pass out. Unbeknownst to him and the rest the class, the multitude of hearts and pink shimmery sparkles crept through the keyhole.

They all awoke, strangely drowsy, with no memory of what had happened. Every student, ghost, house-elf and teacher found themselves in the Great Hall. All, that is, apart from Severus Snape, who was too busy staring at himself in the shiny cauldron in his potions lab. There was silence for a couple of seconds, and then a babble of talk started all at once. Dumbledore got everyone's attention by setting off a loud explosion with his wand. Silence reined once more.

"Please everyone. I need everyone's co-operation. First of all, is everyone here?" People looked around to check their friends were with them. There was a murmur of talk while everyone looked for each other, but still nobody reported anyone missing. Suddenly, Professor McGonagall spoke up; "Professor Snape isn't here." Then a voice came up from the back, "Maybe he is still in the potions lab!"

The noise started up again, this time with a slightly worried tone. Nobody particularly cared about Snape, but there was obviously something very wrong at Hogwart's. Dumbledore sighed, and turned to Professor McGonagall with a grim look on his face. "Minerva," he said heavily, "I will go down to the dungeons to try and find Severus. Please keep everyone as calm as possible." With that, Dumbledore turned and walked out of the Great Hall.
