"It's hard being around you and not being with you."
"Greer.." "You don't wanna get back together, do you?"
"It's not that, I feel like I should just be there for you as a friend."
While depression hit Greer hard she knew her feelings for Brenna were genuine. She was tired of being a puppy to her parents, she wanted to live for herself now. Greer laid herself on the line for Brenna. For once in her life she was going to go after what/who she wanted. Even though she knew Brenna just wanted to be there for her and help, she couldn't shake the feeling of rejection.
The roles of their relationship had quickly inverted. Brenna was now the reassuring shoulder to cry on, the one to hold the other girl late at night, the one to constantly make silly jokes in order to make Greer feel better.
Ironically, they were back in the same spot where Greer first comforted Brenna. It had become their usual late night spot since they were still banned from seeing each other. Brenna held Greer in her arms, her head against her shoulder.
"You know you're the only one to actually make me feel better."
Before Brenna could even respond Greer's lips were touching hers tentatively. She waited for the moment when Brenna would pull away but that never happened. Lips brushed gently against each other. The kiss remained passionate and slow, electricity reigniting two old forces. Greer brushed her tongue against Brenna's lower lip, asking for permission to deepen the kiss. Brenna let Greer's tongue into her mouth gently massaging it with her own.
Lack of breath caused them to pull away. Greer's smile faded quickly after seeing Brenna's look of distraught. Still she had to tell her. While Brenna obviously enjoyed the kiss she still wanted to give Greer time. Jumping back into a relationship right now couldn't be healthy.
"Brenna I love you I-I'm in love with you." Greer admitted, with her head falling immediately into her hands. The brunette reached out and lifted the girls chin.
"I love you too Greer, so much. But we can't do this right now, I care about you too much and I don't think you're ready for a relationship... I don't think we're ready for a relationship."
Greer didn't know wether to wallow in her tears or jump for joy. The girl she was in love with just admitted to being in love with her also. But they couldn't be together. She knew Brenna just wanted to do the right thing but not being with her in that way was too painful. When would Brenna ever think she was ready? She was tired of being treated like she was made out of glass. The blonde didn't plan on moving on from Brenna but for once she had to start thinking of herself.
"Brenna I really like you...but I can't keep doing this if its not for real." Her voice quivered and eyes threatened to cry. No response from Brenna.
The blonde picked up her purse off of the bench and slowly made her way back to the parking lot. Part of her wanted Brenna to chase after her and tell her that she wanted to be with her right then and there.
But she knew that couldn't happen.
