Katerina stared in horror at Trevor after the words left his mouth. Her head was spinning. She felt dizzy and even a bit nauseous. Surely he was kidding. Surely she had misheard what he said. All she wanted was for him to be joking or wrong. The brunette scanned her mind for any of the tell-tale signs that should have been given. She just couldn't think of any. She didn't want to think of any.
Trevor's voice broke through her haze. "Katerina you must go. Now!" He whispered harshly. This wasn't a dream. This was real. The young girl felt bile rising in her throat as the man beside her shoved a stone in her hands. She was going to throw up.
Having only one thing on her mind, Katerina ran. She picked up her skirts and ran for her life.
This is real.
Klaus was planning on killing her this entire time. Klaus had used her, playing her heart and mind. Her never once cared for her.
This is actually happening.
Elijah was in on it too. He had dispersed her wary thoughts of his own younger brother. He had used her just as much as Klaus. He pretended to care and show affection.
They all lied to me.
Rebekah must have known what her brother's were up to. The blonde had pretended to be her friend. Pretended to like her. Pretended to listen to her. Katerina had shared some secrets with her. Things that a traitor should have never known.
They manipulated me.
Each one pretended to care for her. Each pretended they liked her there. They only liked her presence because she was the key to an ancient curse. Rebekah was never a friend. Klaus never wanted to court her. Elijah never loved her. They only manipulated her to Klaus' gain.
They never wanted me.
Katerina had never felt so sick in her entire life. Every thought made her stomach churn. She was most likely going to vomit, but that would have to wait. She couldn't risk anyone catching her trail. She just wanted to get out of there.
I've never been so used.
Katerina's breath has quick and uneven. Small breaths of air came in and out. She had gotten dizzy from all the running. She grasped a tree to catch her breath when she heard the threatening voice of Elijah. They had found out she left.
I've never been so scared.
He was so close, she could tell by his voice. She sank down, unable to run anymore. She just wanted this nightmare to be over. She just wanted to be back home with her mother. She wished she had never come. She wished this had never happened.
I just want to die.
Katerine concluded that this wasn't worth it. She was going to die either way. She decided that she should choose. She didn't want to give Klaus the satisfaction of coming back. She wasn't going to die at his hands. She wasn't going to die in the sacrifice. After what him and his family did to her, they didn't deserve breaking the curse. She only wished she could see their reactions when they realized they wouldn't be able to do the sacrifice.
I'll never trust again.
The thought ran through her head as she quickly created a noose with the rope that had been foolishly left with her. She didn't know how long Rose and Trevor would be talking.
I'll never love again.
She wrapped the rope around her neck and just let her body go. She could feel the air quickly leaving her body. Since she didn't fight, she died pretty quickly.
This is what Klaus deserves for his betrayal.
Katerina was alive. She couldn't believe it at first, but then remembered the blood Rose had given her. Had that somehow prevented her death? Trevor was yelling, he upset at her for dying. He didn't understand what she was going through. It was pointless to live on.
This will haunt me forever.
Katerina felt strong, she felt undefeatable, as she fled with her new-found speed. She was far away from the nightmare, glad it was over. It hadn't ended the way she planned, but perhaps she got something better out of it.
I should have gone back.
She realised her mistake when she returned home. Everyone was dead. Her servants. Her friends. Her extended family. Even her beloved mother. They were all dead. Katerina never cried as hard as she did that day. She could only assume that Rebekah had told Klaus of her child, and he killed her, too. She had never felt so empty.
This is what I get for my betrayal.
