Sitting on her bed, she surrenders to the ever-present urge and allows her thoughts the luxury of traversing all-too-familiar pathways -- to the day she lost him: friend, commanding officer, and husband, all in one fell swoop.
Christmas Eve, and Samantha's alone. Although Janet and her newly-wedded husband had invited her to dinner, she'd refused. She couldn't watch others happily enjoying love...not when her own had been so abruptly shattered.
Her fingertips brush across their wedding photograph, and raw pain wells up, slashing her insides into a million aching pieces.
Her first Christmas without Jack...but certainly not the last.
