AFAR

Lying placidly,

peacefully, silently

on the linen sheets,

her eyes open,

her body stiff

with utter shock.

He watches, from afar.

Her friends visit,

take hold of hands

and whisper something,

he doesn't know what.

Only Merlin knew

that he had wanted to do so too.

But no, it mustn't be

in the light of lamp,

only in the dark night.

So he watches,

he watches from afar.

Her open mouth,

doesn't close one bit

as the nurse checkes her.

He wishes to touch her cheek,

to apologise to her,

for her miserable state.

But the night is still far.

So he watches from afar.

At last the darkness descends

with its mysterious charm.

The hall is silent.

No longer he is compelled

to watch from afar.

Quickly, almost shyly, he walks

to her place of rest.

"Please wake up.",

he whispers gently in her ear.

"It's just not the same without

you Granger.", he continues.

"Just wake up and then

we'll be back to Mudblood

and Pureblood."

"Oh, curse it all!", he says

in a hoarse low mutter,

straddles her and cups her

cheeks, seeing her

delicate features light up

in his faint blue light from

his wand.

He doesn't know

what overcomes him

but abandoning all reason,

he kisses her gently.

He is inexperienced,

it's his first after all.

He is highly unpracticed

but it doesn't matter.

He stays, bending upon her,

hopelessly waiting

for a reaction.

"Merlin!", he sighs,

"I just kissed Hermione

Granger. Petrified."

But he doesn't come down just then.

No, he watches,

this time from near.

He sees her hair,

which he calls

a bush in the glowing

sunlight, spread around

her serene face like a

sacred halo. Yes, sacred

she is to him.

She is his sanctuary,

a peaceful haven.

And he knows it.

He gets down from her tenderly,

removing her messy twirls

from her forehead.

He lovingly clasps her hand.

"Goodbye Granger.", he

murmurs, giving her

cheek one last feathery

touch,

knowing that she would

be unknowing

about these encounters

in the silence of the night.

He walks away sullenly,

heart utterly heavy.

He knows what he has

done, wasn't

something his family

would approve of.

But it doesn't matter,

for he was able

to watch her from near,

wallow in her

pleasant beauty.

The dark and quiet

corridors greet him,

the blowing wind through

them almost saying

that his strange liking

for her is doomed

from the beginning.

But he doesn't need

telling, he knows his

fate, their fate.

He knows he is made

to watch her from afar.

And afar it will be.
