Chapter One
I don't like seeing her like this. She's been laying on that damn bed for months and haven't even recovered!
My poor sister…
I brushed off some of her brown locks that was falling from her peaceful face.
Her eye sockets were bulging, face so thin, skin too pale and a small body far too fragile. She's been starving herself to be like those 'perfect people' she likes to call, she only eats bread and drinks water.
She wanted to fit in, to be beautiful. But instead she collapsed during Christmas Eve, now here she is… in the hospital for seven months.
Everyday the bills were getting higher and we didn't have enough much money to pay it off.
Mum and dad are doing everything they can to fix our problems, but they worked too hard. I haven't seen them of for last three days.
I tried looking for a job as well, but I only get paid less. It'll do for now.
"Onee-chan?" Ami said, eyes slightly open and her voice was very raspy. "Why are you crying?"
I gasped and wiped my face with the back of my hand, I didn't realised I was crying. "Nothing, I had something in my eye."
She weakly nodded.
I looked at her in the eye, she had lost her sparkle and now it was dull. The fierce and strong Ami was gone and I prayed of her to come back soon.
"I have to go now, Ami." I stood up from my seat and kissed her forehead. "Goodnight my little Angel."
"Okay. Say I said hello for mum and dad for me!"
I saluted her, "Hai!"
And just like that, the nurse came in and gave Ami her medicines. The tubes that were connected through her body were joint to the machines and that blood bag to keep her living. It breaks my heart so much.
I closed the door quietly and looked down.
How can I save a life?
The cold, harsh wind made my journey back home difficult. I only wore my school uniform to the hospital once school finished, so I was shivering to death.
It was late and all shops were closed early for today, except the building just across the street. My eyes were getting blind whenever I stare at its enormous, neon sign.
Midnight Dreams.
It's not really a store, which it's obvious from it's name. But it was like one, just without products, it was women who sell their bodies instead
Other words: a strip club.
The sound of men howling at the strippers and loud music can be heard for miles.
I could just imagine it.
A perverted man, placing a buck load of money on the woman's lingerie as she sexually dances at the edge of the stage, then she would grab him by the hand and do a one night stand in a private booth.
I cringed just thinking about it.
But then… they do get paid a lot. I wonder if… Wait! No way! Hinamori Amu, don't you dare think about that! You have a perfect job, it will do.
As I passed by the building, I noticed a flyer hanging by the door. Curious what it's about, I crossed the street and snatched the paper and continued my walk.
WANTED! A NEW DANCER FOR MIDNIGHT DREAMS.
I stopped by a lamp post and re-read the sentence over and over.
Just what if… No! Just stop! Don't sell your body to a man. But you get paid a lot. And it will help pay off the hospital bill.
I wanted to stop thinking and just go home. But I couldn't. I was fighting over my subconscious.
I sighed and folded up the paper and stuffed it in my bag.
Just in case...
