Author`s Note: This is only my second story so please bear with all the mistakes and everything. I only own the story, so that means, and you may as well know that everything else is owned by Stephenie Meyer. I tried to make this as close to the story in New Moon as possible. So, yeah. Hope you like it, and I would really love it if you comment and review! :)
P.S. Thanks also to yayme2012! Your comment really helped. :)
The clock tolled again. It was time. In a few moments, I would be with my Bella. Her sweet scent, her fair skin that blushes scarlet when I touch her. My Bella, I will be with you very soon.
I take a step forward towards the sun and I block the outside world as I close my eyes. I hear murmurs of the crowd below and their thoughts are louder than ever. No, tune it out.
"No! Edward, look at me!"
Was that my Bella? That faint aggravated voice that I hear? Exactly how I imagined it would be, if she could see me right now. If there is an afterlife for our kind, and not this eternal damnation I believe, I don`t care anymore. I would take all of it. I put one foot forward and I almost feel the heat of the sun when a soft, warm object hit me and almost slid down from my body when, just in time, I caught it with my arms.
The clock tolled once again.
Where am I? I opened my eyes very slowly. I looked down, wondering what this soft, warm object might be when, to my amazement, it was my Bella. Bella, Bella, Bella. So we do have an afterlife.
"Amazing, Carlisle was right," I say out loud.
But my Bella still looked worried. She looked like she was putting force on me, or maybe my eyes are still adjusting to this place. This place. Where exactly?
"Edward, you`ve got to get back into the shadows. You have to move!"
Oh, my dear Bella. Why so worried? And what is this silly thing about moving? I caressed her cheek, this simple movement I missed so much in the months that we were apart. Well, now we will never leave each other again.
The clock tolled again.
It makes me wonder how powerful the Volturi really are. Aro, Alec? How strong are they?
"I can`t believe how quick it was. I didn`t feel a thing—they`re very good," I press my lips to her hair, remembering her sweet scent, and how I would be with this woman forever.
"Death, that hath sucked the honey of thy breath, hath had no power yet upon thy beauty."
I smell her once more. Her sweet, delicious scent was exactly how I remembered it. Her softness, her scent, everything was the same. Am I being punished? I get to be with her in this place, but I still have to control the urge not to hurt her for the rest of eternity? This burning in my throat will be here forever?
"You smell exactly the same as always. So maybe this is hell. I don`t care. I`ll take it." I don`t care whether this is how I will live with her forever. I will accept it, as long as I can be with her. Just her.
"I`m not dead. And neither are you! Please Edward, we have to move. They can`t be far away!" she says, her voice still strained.
What? What is all this nonsense she is speaking of? Who is 'they'? What is she talking about?
"What was that?" I asked politely.
"We`re not dead, not yet! But we have to get out of here before the Volturi—"
As she spoke, I remember. The clock, the murmurs below in the background. The heat. The warmth.
We`re still alive.
I`m not dead.
And neither is Bella.
