"Theresa…Don't leave me…Little Ethan and Jane need you…and I need you."
The courage of a dreamer
The innocence of youth
The failures and the foolishness
That lead us to the truth
Tabitha chuckled. "Oh, Endora, what do you think? Should we watch Ethan suffer as his one true love dies in his arms?"
The baby witch frowned in disapproval. Tabitha simply replied, "Oh, fine. You always had a bigger heart than I did. We'll do it your way, like 'Beauty and the Beast.' Not until you say those three little words, Ethan."
The hopes that make us happy
The hopes that don't come true
And all the love there ever was
I see this all in you
Theresa barely opened her eyes, and spoke. "Ethan…goodbye." She tenderly caressed his cheek, and when she pulled her hand away, it was wet from the tears.
He whispered, "No, Theresa, no. You can't die. I won't let you. I promise. I'll protect you. I'll never let you go."
You are part
Part of the human heart
You are part
Of all who took the journey
And managed to endure
The ones who knew such tenderness
The ones who felt so sure
The ones who came before you
The others yet to come
And those who you will teach it to
And those you learned it from
Ethan took Theresa in his arms, and lifted her up as gently as he could. He told her, "I promise, I'll stop the bleeding." He had already torn off his coat, and it hadn't helped much. He tore his shirt down the middle, forgetting the buttons, and wrapped it around her wound.
She said, "It won't help, Ethan. I'm dying."
"No. No. You're not. You'll be fine."
"Promise me something, Ethan."
"Anything."
"Will you tell Jane what her mommy was like? And remind Little Ethan?"
He felt like he was gasping for air. "I won't need to. You'll be fine."
Tears were welling up in his eyes. He couldn't say goodbye.
You are part
Part of the human heart
You are part
This is the gift I give
Through your love you'll live
Forever.
"Theresa, no. You can't leave me…You can't…Don't you see…I love you."
Tabitha heartily laughed. "Oh, Endora. That was easier than I thought."
Endora clapped, as if to push Tabitha into doing something.
She said, "Fine. But you'll have to help me. Let's see what we can do for poor Theresa."
The wound shrank and vanished. She sat up, just as well as she was before she had been injured.
Ethan sat beneath her, his head in his hands, sobbing. "I couldn't save you, Theresa. I'm sorry."
She said, "I think you already did."
He looked at her, astonished.
"Theresa, you're…"
"Happier than I've ever been. I heard you, Ethan. You love me."
"I... yes. I do."
That was all he had time to say, because Theresa kissed him. They sat in the branches of a tree, loving each other again.
You are part
Forever
Part of the human heart
Forever
You are part
Part of the human heart
"Well, what do you think, Endora?" Tabitha mused. "We reunited a couple with the help of a fifteen- year- old show tune and some healing powers."
Endora simply smiled. Despite all the havoc she loved to wreak with her mother, she liked Ethan and Theresa. They shouldn't be disturbed. But now, more plotting. Hmm, how should I get Grandfather Alistair to kick the bucket...
