Title: What is a Tensai?
Author: Fuji S. Yuki
Character: Fuji
What is a Tensai? In English, it translates into the word Genius. Then what exactly is a genius? In the dictionary, a genius is someone that possesses extraordinary intellectual and creative power. Yet, it also refers to a person of extraordinary intellect and talent. Talent? What did talent have to do with anything? Even though Simone de Beauvoir stated 'One is not born a genius, one becomes a genius.' He didn't necessary indicate the words talent. In the book behind genius it says that the genius is someone that has a natural talent; aptitude.
So, did this mean that anyone could become a genius? For Fuji Syusuke he felt that the definitions were not applicable to him. Surely, people name him as a Genius let alone a Prodigy, but then that draws another question. What is a Prodigy? A prodigy is a person with exceptional talents or power. Again, that word talent. Ironic isn't it that it kept on popping up. Are the words prodigy and a genius one and the same? On the other hand, did this mean there was something else in the fundamental rudiments of words that two words could mean the same thing.
These words were the key to amusement for Fuji, he frequently bother Tezuka for his English book just to figure out the literal meaning behind these words. Perhaps it was to figure out a meanifully secret to life. However, to Fuji it was another way to pass the time, so once again he copy downs another word.
Speaking of Tezuka he was seen as a person that was talented, yet he never heard anyone ever refer to him as a Genius let alone a Prodigy. Why was Tezuka only called a talent? The word itself meant a marked innate ability for artistic accomplishment. It also entitled a person naturally endowed with superior quality and ability.
Did this mean that Tezuka was a person born with the ability to just do things to accomplish things? Yet, the word talent itself was embedded in the words of genius and prodigies. Then what was the difference then between talented, genius, and prodigies?
Lean back in his chair Fuji stare out the window, his mind drifting. Simone de Beauvoir believe that a genius were people not born as one but that become one. Could it be said the same for those that were talented? His fingers circle on his desk faintly writing out the words invisibly. Would Simone de Beauvoir state the same thing to those that are talented? Could the talented be those that were born with the ability and that it was impossible to become a talent?
Amusing that people would choose words that might indeed mean the same. For Fuji he saw himself as himself, people like to label him. They also like to label Ryoma and all the other individuals that display a difference in abilities. Perhaps it was the bias in the world. Tezuka no matter if he is called a Talent is probably the one closet to being a Genius the same goes for Ryoma.
Human rationality to label individuals were something of clear inaccuracy. Then again, it wasn't so bad to be labeled. If people thought one way of what you are, then that is their problem.
