It had been three months since Ray had confessed to Ziva that he had feelings for someone else (EJ). Then the two of them ran off to Spain together to get married.
Immediately after they decided Spain was no place to live and start a family, so they took the bold move to DC where EJ and Ray found a place to work.
One Sunday afternoon Ray and EJ decided to take the risk and took their one year old child grocery shopping. It was all going smoothly, until they ran into them.
To be more exact - Tony and Ziva. Ziva appeared to be juggling two, two-year old twin boys. Both looked exactly identical and both were constantly bickering with each other.
"Boys!" Ziva addressed them with a curt tone and instantly they fell silent and began to walk quietly beside her.
Then their carts crashed into each other and their child screamed out in delight at the crash.
"Hush!" EJ reprimanded looking up to apologize to the woman.
Except she was faced with a pale-faced Ziva and Tony appeared to be trying to coax Ziva to move.
Ray came out from one of aisles. "Oh." he deadpanned.
Tony swallowed, "Funny seeing you here. What's his name?"
"Elijah," Ray answered confidently.
"AUNTIE!" one of them shrieked up at Ziva, "Who are dese people?"
"Auntie?" Ray raised an eyebrow.
Ziva didn't answer. She just looked at the ground and tapped her foot nervously. Tony slung an arm around her.
Just then, Abby walked around the corner and called "Boys!" her jaw nearly fell off her face when she saw EJ and Ray together. Abby knew just how to turn around the conversation. She was going to slap them in the face.
"So Tony, has Ziva told you if it's a boy or girl yet?"
Ziva smirked, "He's dying to know. But I'm keeping him waiting,"
Ray and EJ were left standing speechless.
The three walked away and left the two standing there. They had both missed out.
Twenty minutes later the groceries had been paid for, and the two boys had been buckled into their car seats. Ziva sat in between the two (who were now asleep) and Tony sat in the front with Abby.
Ziva spoke, "Well Abby, I would like to thank you. Thank you for dropping the bombshell so I didn't have to,"
Abby smirked at Tony.
"What?" he said surprised, "Abby was being serious! That whole story about it being a girl or boy was real? When were you going to tell me?"
"It's a girl, Tony,"
"Wait - what? We're actually having a baby?"
"Yes,"
Abby had never laughed so much in her life. The reaction from Tony was priceless as he sat in his silence and stared in shock out the window.
Meanwhile, EJ and Ray stood inside the grocery store, still quite shocked as their son cried and cried.
Unfortunately, three weeks later while EJ and Ray were out doing their job at a crime scene a sniper shot them from a high-rise building, leaving behind their one-year old child in care of Ray's mother in Miami.
