An End or A Beginning?
He had just been released from the hospital wing after a terrible transformation that had left him with broken bones and gashes that had nearly killed him. His injuries hadn't healed very well but he had somehow managed to convince Madam Promfrey to let him go so he could get back to lessons. Instead of going to the Gryffindor dormitory, he headed to a balcony that looked out over the grounds from at least a few hundred feet up.
"I can't keep doing this." he thought trying to balance himself on the wall. "I can't keep lying to my friends and what if they've already found out?"
His small body shook with fear as his hands gripped the wall beneath him until he was able to calm himself down some. Nothing seemed right; to tell his friends would mean to lose them and if they found out he knew that he would lose them as well. The only thing that seemed right was to just end everything then his friends would never have to know and his parents wouldn't have to worry about having a werewolf as a son.
"Remus!" someone shouted behind him nearly causing him to fall. "What the hell are you doing?"
Remus turned to find James and Sirius standing there a few steps away from him staring at him concern clear on their faces.
"How did you find me?" he asked looking back over the grounds.
"We went to the hospital wing and Madam Promfrey told us that you'd already left." Sirius answered. "Why didn't you tell us what you..."
"How did you find out?"
Fear gripped Remus as he stared wide eyed down at the fall before him, his mind racing with things they may say.
"We figured it out... Remus, can you com over here?" James asked his voice shaking slightly.
"No one wants a werewolf." Remus said quietly. "Maybe it would be better..."
"Better if you die?" Sirius asked his voice hard. "What are you thinking?"
"You don't have to worry about sharing a dormitory with a werewolf."
He leaned forward ready to feel the rush of air and the falling sensation but instead he felt a strong arm wrap around his middle. Someone had pulled him back and they both fell to the cobblestone floor where Remus laid looking off into space
.
"You idiot." Sirius growled letting go of his friend. "You think we came down here to watch you die?"
Remus shook his head slightly, he could feel tears running down his cheeks as his friends gathered around him. James knelt beside Remus pulling him up into a sitting position as Sirius sat up both looking at Remus sadly.
"We don't care that you're a werewolf." James told Remus. "Yes, it did scare us at first but you're our friend, Remus."
"What about Peter?" Remus asked not looking at either, he was amazed that they still wanted to be his friends.
"We'll talk to him." Sirius told him. "He'll come around."
"Now how about we head to the common room?" James asked looking to the spot Remus had been sitting ready to fall. "Then we'll talk some more... after you get some sleep Remus."
Remus smiled faintly at James and Sirius who helped him up then they walked slowly to the common room. Over the next few days, Peter grew accustomed to the fact that his friend was a werewolf while Sirius and James never let Remus be alone. When the four were alone in their dormitory they would quietly talk about Remus' problem and learned the truth of his injuries from their friend. James, Sirius and Peter began to plan on how to help their friend from nearly killing himself each full moon. Also James and Sirius were afraid of a repeat of what had happened the day they had found Remus so they wanted to him in any way. They were friends and soon became known as Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs: The Maruaders.
