Chapter One: Echoes Part One - Report

The pentacle is red paint messily daubed onto polished floors. Across stands a slim figure, reminding me uncannily of one of my masters. Sheets of paper stir in their pile beside the boy, and a pencil rolls away from him, almost to the edge but not quite. The boy's lips move in a question, so quiet I don't think he can hear himself. I am hardly human, and hear him fine. But I don't answer. How can I, when the question is, "I have to write a report on a famous magician. Do you know anything about Solomon of Jerusalem?"
