Revenge

Elrond was always one who prided himself on his awareness. Even though most thought of him as just a lord and a healer, he had never forgotten his warrior instincts, which was why he was most surprised to find the odd reflection that greeted him in the morning.

He had arisen at dawn (as usual) and was pulling on some fresh robes when he happened to glance at his reflection in the mirror. Instantly he noticed the startling change, after all, how could he miss it? His most prominent and favourite facial features – his eyebrows – were gone!

He gaped at his reflection for what seemed like hours, but was most likely only minutes. He lifted his eyebrow muscles, only to find it did nothing for his expression—except add wrinkles to his forehead, which seemed extremely large now.

How was he to show his curiosity, interest, or most importantly, displeasure, at what the young ones had done? For it most certainly had been them, he was positive about that. He knew he had had eyebrows when he retired to bed last night, which obviously meant he had been the victim of a prank.

Elrond sighed. He had too many things to do today that he could not put off much longer. He finished getting ready and briefly contemplated drawing in his eyebrows with ink, but swiftly decided against it as that might look even stranger than not having them, if that was even possible.

After taking one more deep breath as he prepared himself for the ridiculing that was sure to come, he opened the door to the hallway and hurried find his troublesome sons and their equally troublesome friend. Yes, there would be many shiny weapons in the armoury at the end of the day.

oOoOoOo

From the shadows of an adjacent room, a pair of eyes watched his long time friend storm down the hallway. The Elf's body shook with silent laughter and he fingered the knife he had used to liberate the Elf Lord of his eyebrows. Yes, one thousand years had definitely been enough time for Elrond to lower his defences after the hidden Elf had swore revenge on him for dying his teeth blue.

Glorfindel smiled once more as he came out of his hiding place to watch his friend lecture his sons and the Mirkwood prince. He might have felt guilty about allowing the young ones to take the fall, but just by watching Elrond's forehead wrinkle and smooth as he attempted to raise his non-existent eyebrows, he knew it had been worth it. Revenge was definitely sweet.
