Disclaimer: As much as I would like to, I cannot draw manga-style for the life of me. Therefore, I cannot possibly own Fruits Basket.
I hope I can someday write a sequel for this. Don't keep your hopes up though. Just a short story. Please review.(it's my first fanfiction) Ok, now enjoy (or not) this story.
The sound of the violin rang out into the air and floated past Momo's ear. It seemed like just yesterday she was sneaking into the main house through the secret entrance just to hear that same sound. As she watched her brother, she thought back to the days after the curse broke. It had been stormy at first…..
"Please Papa, let me tell Mama. Maybe she wouldn't be sad anymore. Maybe she would accept me. Please just let me try!"
Momo listened to her brother's argument from behind the door. She too wanted desperately for her mother to accept Momiji. She wanted a whole family, Momiji included. She knew that Mama might be sad, but she might not now that the curse was broken. The conversation continued on the other side of the door.
"And what if she got sick again? How would you feel then?" Papa argued.
"Then Tori San could erase her memories again, and I would never let her even see me. Momo was fine when she found out about the curse!"
"I said no"!
"Oh please Papa!" This was Momo, running into to the room.
"Well, maybe……" Papa could never resist a request from the sweet seven-year-old, but this was serious.
"Please!"
"Oh….alright…fine…." He said, defeated. "But gradually, alright? Don't just blurt it out in a few seconds"
"Yes, Papa" The two children said in unison.
From that conversation, they had gradually brought back Mama's memories of Momiji. Dropping hints, placing pictures in plain sight. Momiji even came over to eat a few times…. And bit by bit Mama had remembered. One day the block on her memories disappeared entirely. She had been sad for a few days, but not because of the Momiji's former curse. She was ashamed. Ashamed that she had chosen to forget. And then she had remembered that he was still here. And he still needed her……..
"Momiji! I'm so sorry! I'll never forget again!" Mama had burst into the room, just as Momiji was teaching Momo a new song for the violin. Mama hugged her son, crying softly.
"Of course you won't." Momiji said through tears of happiness. The family he had wished for was finally a reality.
Momo gazed past the clouds, into the blue sky. It seemed like only yesterday, yet it was years ago. Nine, to be exact. And what a beautiful nine years it was. A real family, true friends, everything she had wished for. Momo stood up and walked back to the house, the memories of the past trailing behind her. Memories that she would never lose.
