Merry Christmas

From: Elwyn

Elena awoke early, stretching her arms high above her head lazily. She yawned twice before she noticed that the bed beside her was empty. She slipped her slippers and robe on and was halfway towards the door when she realized the pocket was heavier than it should be. She stopped, and reaching into the pocket pulled out a small velvet box. Smiling, she lifted the lid, and was surprised to find it held only a piece of paper.

'Come to the living room.' She raised her eyebrow, and slipping the paper back in the box made her way down stairs. There was a soft glow coming from the living room, more than the Christmas tree lights usually gave off. A fire was blazing in the fireplace, giving the room a warm comfortable feeling. Sitting in front of the fire was another box. Elena knelt before it, and pulling the ribbon loose, looked inside.

As before this one was empty except for a piece of paper. Elena lifted it out, and unfolded it. Her eyes welled up with tears as she read the words.

I never lived until I met you; I never had a reason to.

I want to declare our love for the world to see.

I give you my heart and all I ask in return is…

Elena turned the paper over, but that was the last, there was nothing on the back. The from behind her came, "Elena, will you marry me?" She turned around, and her eyes fell upon Stefan, kneeling there. He took her hand in his and slid a beautiful diamond ring onto her finger. "I asked you before, and you said yes. After everything we've been through, my love for you is stronger than I ever thought it would be. I'm asking you to be by my side as long as fate allows you to do so. I want you to be my wife."

Elena felt a single tear trickle down her cheek as she nodded. "Yes." She whispered. Oh, yes Stefan, yes." She laughed as Stefan stood up and pulled her to her feet. He lifted her into the air and spun her around, giddy with happiness. "I love you so much." She said as he finally put her back on her feet.

"I love you too." He murmured, leaning down towards her. "Merry Christmas, Elena." And then his lips met hers in the most tender of all kisses.
