An eventful lunch break
Lunch break, FINALY !
That's weird. Elphaba is sitting in the cafeteria. Normally she shares her her lunch with that old Goat. Why does she sit so weird ? Is she crying ? Oh my Oz she is ! Why isn't somebody comforting her ? I spot Nessarose she has a sour expression on her face and she has her back turned on Elphaba.
What in Oz happened ?!
Someone must help her. I look around but no one seems to notice that she's crying. My friends see me but I don't care for them now. There is a certain green girl that needs a hug.
I go over to her. "Elphaba are you okay ? She looks up. "Oh like you care" she says bitterly. I do care for her she just doesn't know it. Since I was paired with the green girl I observed her. She reads A LOT, she stands for Animal rights and she is very protective over the ones she loves. I also noticed she is very beautiful and very strong. Not much can make this girl cry so I know this is serious.
"I do care Elphaba" I say soft but firm. She doesn't buy it. "What do you want Galinda ? A new pity project ? I'm really not in the mood for that. Just go away. My heart breaks by hearing her. Not by her harsh words but because she sounds so sad. She is really broken down. I sit down next to her. "Do you want a hug ? She looks at me with wide startled eyes. "What ?" I don't wait for an answer I just pull the girl into a hug.
She tenses up and I expect that she will struggle out of it but it doesn't happen. She puts her arms on my shoulders and starts to sob loudly. I pat her back and try to comfort her. "Schhhhhh schhhhhh it will be alright. She calms down a bit. She pulls back from the hug and looks at me. "Why are you doing this" she asks all teary eyed with a shaky voice. "All of us need friends Miss Elphaba even stubborn green girls. She chuckles weakly but it seems she believes me.
"Thank you Galinda" she really means it. I can see it her eyes. She hugs me thistime. I welcome her and hold her tight. When she pulls back she looks in my eyes once more and I see a strange glimmer. As quickly as it came it is gone. I look around and know why.
We are surrounded by everybody in the cafeteria. "Galinda what are you doing ?! Shenshen asks.
"I'm comforting a hurt girl Shen. What does it look like I'm doing ? " I can see that but it's the artichoke ! "She has a name" I say loudly because I'm sick and tired of people calling her names.
"Her name is Elphaba and you will call her that if you know what's wise.
Shenshen is baffled and so is everyone else including Elphaba. " uh Galinda what are you doing ?" she ask in a very small voice. "I'm making sure people start treating you nice and stop harrasing you. Get up. She does. "Elphaba is a human being, she has feelings and they can get hurt. You might think your words don't touch her because she is so quiet all the time, but they do. She doesn't respond because she is so damn strong. She has her limits however and it looks like people crossed it. I advice the ones who did this to not do it again or you will be in some serious trouble, because you will be dealing with me
And without waiting for a response I hook Elphaba's arm in mine and we walk out of the cafeteria. She is totally baffled and can't say a word but I can see she is very grateful.
My morning was very eventful and I made a new friend. We will have much to discus I think and I intend to find out what that glimmer in her eyes was but that is something for another day.
