Stupid eyes

Stupid glow

Stupid colours

Of course the one time there were colours to see, I couldn't see them. I loved the idea of different colours ever since I could remember.

I mean, I could tell they were different but I couldn't tell which was which.

It was annoying, especially when all the machines relied on different coloured wires.

I didnt tell my friends about how I was colour blind- well sort of colour blind anyway. I was too proud to admit I couldn't tell the difference between wires that weren't blue, white or black.

My friends had always given me funny looks when I asked for those coloured wires. It often ended in a 'its easier to get red, green and yellow dye'

And so here I was desperately trying to figure out which colour was which. We were never going to finish the factory at this rate.

Sighing in frustration I threw down the wires and got up, glaring at them as if it would make a difference.

"You alright there Xeph?"

I jumped and spun around, "Huh? Oh! Yeah I'm fine"

"How's the compressor going?" Lalna asked looking down at the mess of wires

"Good, no great actually. Im uhh almost done" I replied stepping in front of Lalnas gaze.

He raised a brow,"You sure? Looks like you've been having trouble with the wires again"

I set my gaze down to the ground. Damit Lalna your too observant at the best of times.

"I uhh- hmmm..." I didn't know what to say. Did he know my secret? Or was he just saying that as a true observation?

"Xephos, I've noticed you've been having trouble with the wires" Lalna paused.

Oh no please dont say it Lalna

"Xephos are you colour blind" it was more of a statement then a question.

I sighed. He knew. "Yes... It's because of my eyes- glowing I mean"

"So that's why you wanted the other coloured cables and wires, huh"

"Yes, I can tell them apart easily. Blue is blue. White is light blue. And black is black. Simple, but when it comes to other colours they all look strange and the same almost..." I sighed again, "please don't tell Honeydew, Lalna"

"Why not?"

"I don't want him to know"

"But then he wouldn't get annoyed about you not being able to tell the difference between ores"

"Lalna please. I dont want anyone else to know. Back on my planet everyone's eyes would have a white like glow, while mine were blue. It was hard enough on a colourless planet to fit in, let alone a coloured one"

Lalna simply nodded and gave me a pat on the shoulder. "Xephos I will not tell him, but" he looked me in the eyes before continuing, "You must"

I nodded slowly and thanked him

After a moment Lalna spoke again.

"Now hows about we get some wires you can see?" He smiled, I chuckled

"Yeah it might help. Just a little" I smiled this time and he Laughed.

Maybe my eyes won't be such a problem anymore... Not with Lalna around at least.
