"The sun of gold and the songs of birds,
That's how much I love you.
Grass of green and the ringing of bells,
That's how much I love you."
Annie smiled at her baby boy, watching as he closed his little eyelids.
"The taste of sweets and the smell of lilies,
That's how much I love you."
Finnigan was a boy of good temper but great stubbornness, she noted as the toddler forced his eyes open once more in an attempt to stay awake for the rest of his mother's poem. He yawned, his bright green eyes staring at her face as his eyes fluttered shut once more.
"Breeze fresh and the dark of night, that's how much I love you."
Finnigan was as close as she could get to his father's name without breaking down. Katniss had suggested it in a letter, saying Peeta had mentioned it. Annie had simultaneously loved the name and hated it, but decided that Finnick would've liked it. Thus, she went with it anyway.
Finnigan grabbed her hand, squeezing it tightly as his body began to go limp with sleep. As she looked on, his hand slackened it's grip, allowing her to softly pry herself free.
The smell of the ocean permeated her nostrils, and she inhaled deeply. She briefly wondered what Finnick would have to contribute to his child's bedtime ritual. However, finding the question too painful, shook her head furiously to rid herself of the thought. Her hair frizzing slightly from the rattling, she took a deep breath and finished the poem before clicking Finnigan's door shut.
"Seaweed green and seas of blue
That's how much I love you."
Hi! I'm Hannah! I know this was short, but I woke up this morning wanting to write this specific scenario, so I short of rushed. I hope you enjoyed!
