Kaylee glided into the galley, humming quietly to herself. Seeing Mal sat at the table sipping tea she smiled. Everyone, including her, knew that he and Inara had been making good progress with each other and when the two had left dinner together last night, they all knew something must have happened.

Pouring herself a cup of tea she sidled into the chair next to him, her smile wide on her face with pure happiness, "So?"

He took a sip, not once having glanced at her from the moment she walked in, "So what?" His eyes were trained on the engine room opposite him, his face a blank mask.

"So, what happened?" She prompted, rolling her hands as if telling him to continue his story. She knew it had to have some good details in it considering Inara was a companion and all.

"What ya mean lil' Kaylee?" His voice was level and bordering on the edge of exasperation. But she wasn't swayed by the tone of his voice that easily.

She rolled her eyes at him, hating his ignorance of simple details that she was lacking the knowledge of. She also hated how he was avoiding the topic considering how everybody would b asking the same thing. "Ya know Cap'n, you an' Inara. Ya left pretty quickly last night an' not one'a us heard or seen a peep from either of ya since." She took a sip from her tea with mild humour, knowing that he couldn't avoid her questions much longer.

Mal sighed, setting his cup down and sparing it one last glance. He turned to look at her, the black eye visible to her now. "She hit me."
