When the young family finally reached the bottom of the steps to the Ministry of Magic, they were greeted by a number of familiar faces. The Potter family had finally arrived. Mr. Potter stood in front, clutching the hand of his youngest, Lily, while Mrs. Potter and Albus stood behind them. A few feet behind the four stood James Potter, the eldest and most mischievous of the three Potter children. He looked around bored wondering why they were there. It's not like they needed to see all these people everyday. Besides, the other Weasley children were coming to play Quidditch this afternoon and he wanted to be ready. This time he would beat Rose and her team mates.
While thinking about beating Rose, he noticed out of the corner of his eye a mysterious looking door. As usual, his curiosity overcame him and he started towards the door. He looked back and saw that his parents and younger siblings were too busy to notice him leaving. He ran quickly to the door and checked to see if it was unlocked. It was. He opened it quietly and slipped into the room.
He saw that it was pitch black until he noticed a strange blue light coming from the back of the room. He walked towards the light until he arrived in front of another mysterious looking door. He opened it and saw shelves full of crystal balls, their insides filled with blue smoke. He stood frightened at this odd encounter. As he was about about leave, he noticed a ball had the name "Potter" inscribed on its tag. He stalked towards and examined it carefully. It didn't look dangerous, so he cradled it in his hands. Right when he was about to put it back on its stand, he heard his father call him. He dropped it and ran out the doors into the main hall to meet his father. He knew that he would be in trouble for going to places he shouldn't be in, but what he didn't was that the ball lay shattered behind him. While his father was scolding him, the blue smoke crawled towards the Potters. It reached into their souls and hung there.
The Potter family had been cursed.
