Hey guys! This is my very first fanfiction, it's a pretty bad start, I know, but hopefully, if all goes as planned, it will get better. Please review, and enjoy, I'm happy to take any suggestions on board:)
Chapter One
Katniss POV
"I look ridiculous," I sighed, staring at my baby bump in the bathroom mirror with my top rolled up. "Pregnancy doesn't suit everyone. Well, at least I'm not like Glimmer, hooking up with every guy on the planet."
"Glimmer's a slut, Katniss," a voice called. "She's a tart, and you're nothing like her. I promise." I heard Johanna move behind me and I spotted her pleased reaction in the mirror. She had toothpaste around her mouth, and her hair was sticking up in all different angles, due to our lie in. "Hey, you popped," she smiled. "I didn't even notice."
I glared at her and threw my top down. "Only a little," I said, rather defensively. "I'm going to be so fat."
"Blame your boyfriend, he's the one who should of remembered the condoms," Johanna stated.
"Boyfriend ..." I scoffed. I'd never wanted to get pregnant before marriage. I wasn't that type of girl. I wasn't Glimmer who'd somehow managed to get pregnant at 15 and gone around telling everyone that it was just a one night stand. She'd given birth to a boy nine months later, and surprise, surprise, the father never showed up.
Johanna wrapped a nightgown around herself and wondered out of the room. "Hot chocolate?" she offered from the hallway.
"Yes please," I called back. I pulled on my slippers and walked out of the room, my hand placed lightly over my stomach. It was like I could feel it moving. This little bundle of joy wrapped up all cosy inside me. It must feel so safe, locked away in a cushioned cell, hearing the sweet sound of it's mother's voice all day long. Mother ... I missed mine.
When I got downstairs, I could smell the sweet smell of chocolate wafting from the kitchen along with bacon, eggs and what smelt like cinnamon toast. My stomach growled in process as I entered the kitchen. I saw Rue sat on the island, her jet black hair bushy like a lion and dressed in skimpy pyjamas.
"Woah, where did you get these?" I asked, pinging the strap of her nightgown.
Rue grinned. "Victoria's secret," she said. "Me and my sister went shopping the other day and she bought a bunch of stuff that's too small. Do you want it?"
My eyes widened. "Uh, yeah," I responded. "Whilst I can still fit into it."
Clove looked up from flipping pancakes. "Your baby bump?"
"She finally popped," Johanna giggled, munching happily on a banana. Clove smirked at me, and I glared at her.
"It's no big deal," I told her. "It's a little embarrassing."
"Why?" Clove asked. "Everyone knows anyway, it's not like you're hiding anything."
Annie wandered into the room, looking like she'd just woken up. "Nah, I get what you mean, Katniss," she mumbled. "You just don't want it to be obvious."
"Exactly," I groaned. "I hope it isn't that noticeable." I examined my bump for a moment before looking up and seeing everyone turning away from me awkwardly. "Crap," I muttered. "Well, you know, it's going to show up one way or another."
We moved our breakfast stash into the living room and turned on Panem Channel. My and Johanna sat together on the sofa, Rue sat on the floor in front of us and Clove and Annie taking each of the armchairs. I looked around, not really interested in the T.V and admired Johanna's living room. White sofas, white rugs and white wallpapers decorated with red blankets and pillow and curtains. The T.V was as big as me, if not bigger. I loved the house, but I missed mine. I missed my family. I missed Prim.
I only noticed tears had welled up in my eyes when I spotted Clove staring at me. I wiped my eyes gingerly on my sleeve and got up. "I need some juice," I explained and hurried out of the room.
I poured myself some orange juice, giving my tears a few minutes to leak. Since I found out I was pregnant, I couldn't help my emotions or my sickness. It made it feel more real, minus the baby bump.
"You okay?" a voice behind me asked. I turned around and saw Clove stood, smiling at me in the doorway. Her smile faded when she caught sight of me. "What's wrong?"
I shrugged. "I love being here, Clove. I really do, but I miss my family."
"Have you seen Prim at all?"
Her name struck lightening inside me. "I haven't seen since Mum kicked me out."
"She's not at school?"
"Nope." I put the orange juice back in the fridge and leaned against the counter. "I wonder how long this is going to go on for, you know? Mum must still love me, no matter if I'm pregnant. I just ... I really thought she would stick beside me on this."
"I know, I get that," Clove admitted. "But you're Katniss Everdeen. You can cope. You're a strong, independent women."
"I am?"
"Hell yeah," Clove laughed. "Now come on, you haven't even touched your bacon yet." I hesitated. Clove rolled her eyes. "Come on, Katniss, you have to eat something. Your Mum isn't going to be like this forever. Eventually ... in time, she's going to accept this."
I smiled at her and followed her out of the room, my hand wandering down to my stomach as I absentmindedly stroked my swelling belly with my thumb. I didn't care what anyone said, I love my baby already.
As I told you, it's not the best start, but trust me, it will get better! Review please.
