It was a drizzly afternoon, but it was a hot day where the little rainfall was welcome with gratitude. People went about their business, commuting, shopping or stopping at the market. My brother and I were headed into the jumble of tents and booths, chatting about what we were looking to get. There was a new tent, laden with decoration, that was sitting on the edge of the market and my brother eyed it curiously, "Sign says fortune teller, want to go in?" my brother asked cheerfully.
"You believe that stuff?" I teased.
"Nah, just want to do it for the giggles."
I laughed, half shoving him inside. There were spinning strings hanging from the ceiling, and a large gong was hanging behind a table. A man, dressed in a flashy robe appeared from almost nowhere. "Well! Customers! Come, sit down! I shall read your fortune and tell your-"
He stopped with his hands on my brother's shoulders, eyes widening and shuffling away. "What?" he asked peering at his shoulder, "Spider or something?"
"Get her out of here. Out. SHE IS FOLLOWED!" his voice got louder and louder, as he backed away from us. I was caught off guard and I stumbled back, being caught by my brother. "Come on, this guy's a whack job." he muttered pulling me away. But what the man had said stuck in my mind.
She is followed.
We completely disregarded the shopping, I was too shaken and I just wanted to lay down. We took the tram home and I went up to my bedroom to lie down. My mind was whirring and I couldn't focus, nor fall asleep. What did that man mean? Followed by who, and why was he so scared? Finally I settled into an uneasy sleep.
…...
Blackness. I was somewhere but it was just black. Then there were lights, they flashed past the corner of my vision then there were just two lights next to each other, growing bigger and brighter every second. Then nothing again. I couldn't tell if I was awake or asleep, but after a moment I realized there was a small creature floating in the middle of the space. It had blank glowing eyes and a long tail with a plume at the end.
It looked at me then a word rang in my head.TRAM
