James T. Kirk, captain of the starship, Enterprise, wasn't necessarily one to back down from a challenge. This…was just a little bit different. "She's…blue."
"And not an Andorian, sir." Spock had that helpful tone in his voice.
"She claims she's a demon god, Jim." And Bones just sounded…dammit, that was delight. Like he'd gotten the last word. "When was the last time you dealt with a god?"
Giving the good doctor a sour look, Kirk muttered, "Which last time? Wasn't it just a few months ago, Spock? Granted, gentlemen, we've never had someone actually just…appear…on the bridge of the ship without transporter capabilities." His face screwed up. "She actually teleported here?" His hand inscribed a circle in a forward motion. "On her own power?"
"There are some races of life that are far more advanced than those Star Fleet is presently aware of." Spock clasped his hands behind his back, taking on that lecturing pose that made Kirk and Bones roll their eyes at each other. "However, in this instance, I have to admit," he stopped short of actually saying it.
"That there are things out there beyond your philosophy?" Bones wouldn't allow Spock to just leave it like that. "And Miss Blue there is it?"
"Gentlemen, gentlemen." Kirk patted the air. "This is not getting us any farther in our information gathering process. What do we actually know about this…Illyria?"
"The research I have managed to complete in the short time since her arrival makes no mention of such a creature in known history except as a footnote in a legal case revolving around the early twenty-first century, in the city of Los Angeles, California, old Earth calendar. It seems a woman claiming to be a demon god, Illyria, assisted two vampires with souls, a wizard, and a normal human in defeating a dragon and other creatures that came through a rift in what appears to be a time space continuum."
Bones blinked once. "What sort of fairy tale is that?"
Spock blinked back. "I am simply reciting what information I was able to recover."
"Bones," Kirk interrupted before they actually started into it. "What did you find out?"
"Well, she looks humanoid," Bones did all but actually scratch his head, "but she made all my equipment go crazy." Before Spock could ask for a more scientific explanation, Bones went on. "She short-circuited the medical scanner and there's something really off about her bioelectric field. In short, I don't recognize what the hell she is."
"So she might really be a demon." Kirk pursed his lips. "Sort of an attractive one."
"Jim," Bones began warningly.
"Captain, I really must protest," Spock added in his two cents.
"Gentlemen." Kirk forestalled any further argument by holding up his hand. "Consider it a fact finding mission of utmost importance. If this woman is just the tip of the iceberg, don't we want to know everything we can about her and her people? Or her followers? I'll be fine." He smirked, touching the intercom. "Security? Have Miss Illyria brought to my quarters." When the affirmative came through, Kirk turned to his friends. "Now, if you two will excuse me, I've got a date with a god."
