At Long Last – LOVE!
Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter paced nervously around the small room, her satin gown rustling loudly. Finally, after so many years of waiting, her dreams were coming true. She had seen so much, done so much but none of it could compare to what was happening next.
She thought back all those many years to the first time she had seen him. Jack O'Neill was a Colonel then. Cocky and confidant, with a habit of pretending to be dumber than he was. Once they were married, she thought with a grin, she'd put a stop to that. Now, Jack was a General with three stars on his shoulders.
Over the years the two of them – and their various team mates, of course – had been through quite a lot. How many other people could say they had been to other planets throughout the galaxy? Darn few, that's who. But she and Jack had visited planet after planet, having wonderful adventures together. Jack and his trusty P-90 kept her safe and protected while she performed miracles of technology – linking to alien computers, figuring out alien secrets, discovering alien weapons. Why she had even assisted at autopsies on the alien super soldiers and mutant alien life forms created by radiation, and assisted at a delicate surgery to remove a Goa'uld parasite from the Orici herself. Not bad for an astrophysicist even if Sam did say so herself.
But none of that could compare to today. Everything that she'd done until now was just marking time. Today was the day that really mattered. Her retirement from the military, a crucial component of making this a reality, was effective yesterday. Now, her dreams could come true and her real life could begin.
The door opened and Vala poked her head in. 'Okay, Sam – it's time for your big entrance."
Taking her bouquet in one hand, Sam pulled her veil down with the other. As she walked out the door of the anteroom, Vala came behind her to straighten the train of her satin wedding dress. All of Sam's nervous butterflies disappeared. This felt so right. Finally, she would have a life that truly meant something. Thirty minutes from now, she would be Mrs. Jack O'Neill living the quiet life on Earth in the house with the picket fence, the dog, and hopefully soon, a baby on the way. It was everything she wanted. Everything she had waited so long to achieve. She was so happy that tears of joy streamed down her face.
This was the best day of Sam's life.
The. End.
