'Half a league,half league onward'
The dim light of the moon shone through the heavy clouds of the night, the rain falling creating the ever present mud below, soiling the feet of those in the army brigade who could not afford the water proof, combat ready boots that would protect them.
The wind blew through their armor in a most horrifying feeling of wet, sopping clothing underneath clinging to their bodies like a constant reminder of the immenent destination that lay ahead of them on the perilous trek of what they had presumed to be glory when they signed their contracts.
The cavalry was barely as their reputation had lead society to on days the sun was shining, the ground was flat, and the dirt was dry, they seldom ever used what made them a cavalry, what relieved so many of their aching feet.
The horses.
No,instead they were used for pulling the supplies..The supplies which were mostly depleted, barely enough to last the six hundred of them another month.
"HALT!"
The general's voice echoed through the ranks with barely heard urgency, the men taking a few long moments to compute the order, before stopping in their tracks, looking around with confusion.
And that was the last thing to be remembered, before she found herself laying in the mud puddle, the echo of a gunshot barely registering in her ears, red flowing into the water around her,the worlds beginning to come in dark flashes.
Then the hoof came down before her eyes, and she heard the faint crack of bone, and that was it.
