Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter. That happy right is J.K. Rowling's.

A/N: I believe Green Flash is an icon community on livejournal. O, what strange things inspire me.

I hope you enjoy this story. It was pretty fun, trying to write Snape.

Setting up Potions last minute. The door creaks open, then slams shut. Voices. Movement. He loathes this. "Be quiet or it's detention."

That's better.

One boy enters after everyone else. Scowling. Severus can't help it. He looks up. Green flash. "Ten points from Gryffindor for being so arrogant that you think you can arrive at my classroom whenever you please, Potter."

For a moment - better.

Potter's eyes meet his. Wrong. His mother's eyes. Lily's eyes. Green flash. Hateful.

Not better.

Severus can't help it. In that instant when their eyes meet - green flash - "Legilimens" - he silently creeps into Potter's mind. Sifts through a flashing of images. Finds what he wants. He looks for certain memories on purpose.

He has to go in deep to find them. Those last memories of Lily. Lily. Severus can't help it. He can't. He watches her die. It's almost better, though. It's still almost better than that hatred. She's not hateful here. Just scared. "Stand aside, girl."

He'd tried to protect her...

Instead he watches her die.

Green flash.
