AN 04/2013: Hey, this is my first fanfiction (on here anyway). I'm the kind of person to go 'what if?' and then this came to mind. I hope you like it :)
AN 10/2015: this is the revised version of chapter 1, so please don't be surprised when you see how bad the next few chapters are.
There was a library in the corner of the school. There was a boy who had fallen in love with his upperclassman in this library; when their fingertips brushed against each other, the younger knew he had fallen in love. Everybody says that high school romances never lasted, but Ritsu thought otherwise. He didn't know why - they weren't even in a relationship.
He shook his head and muted himself as he entered the library. Naturally, it was empty as people rarely come here, but it was common courtesy to come in quietly.
He was well aware that his behaviours were becoming stalker-like, no matter how much he denied it. Day after day, Ritsu would check the returns, searching for Saga Masamune's name. And he'd take the book out and read it - he felt closer to him, even if it was something as small as this.
Eyes scanned over the return trolley, looking for something his elder may have read. At the corner of his eye, he could see said upperclassman. Oh crap, oh damn, what if he saw him and thought he was a freak? He shook his head and disappeared to the aisle next to him. But he couldn't help peeking through the gap in the books. He knew he shouldn't spy, but… but…
Actually, he had no good reason apart from the fact that he was feeling jealousy at the pit of his stomach, seeing another girl with him.
The girl wore loose pigtails, dyed a shade of blonde. They rested on her front, but her face was not visible as her fringe covered it as she diverted her gaze to the ground. After a short moment of silence, Saga broke it. "Is there something you need?" He said it quietly, but loud enough for Ritsu to hear. Ritsu wished he never heard it. It made his heart beat just a bit faster.
After a moment of clarity, Miss Pigtails looked up, a light blush visible on her cheeks. Ritsu still couldn't see her face. Bad angle.
"Will you go out with me? I-I mean, if you want to, of course. But I guess that much is obvious, right?"
He had to say no, right? Well sure, she was really cute, but Saga was his, right? Come on, pleas-
"Alright."
He spent a while in the aisle, long after the two had left the room. He stood there, trying to convince himself that he misheard him, but he knew. He knew that he hadn't. And he was being stupid - why did he think that he wasn't straight? It was then that a teacher called him out, telling him that the library would be closing in a few minutes. He smiled politely, and thanked her despite the emotional cyclone going on inside him.
That was also when he decided that he should stop following Saga - it wasn't doing him any good. But that idea was never going to happen. Not when the rain poured down in torrents as he hugged his books. Not when the sharp cry of a cat cut through the rain. Not when said upperclassman clicked his tongue at the cat and sheltered it under his umbrella, stroking its fur and gazing at it fondly.
He watched until the older finally felt a gaze on his back. He turned sharply and glared around but saw no-one - to Ritsu's relief.
