"Come on, babe. Smile?" Niall looked over at his girlfriend, Cassie, trying to hide his inner heartbreak. "I'll be back before you know it."
Cassie bit down on her bottom lip and shrugged. She picked up Niall's suitcase from the bed and walked out of the room, towards the main door of the apartment flat.
Niall quickly followed behind and wrapped his arms tightly around his girlfriend's waist. Niall and his band members were headed to North America for a summer tour, and unfortunately for his girlfriend, he would spend the next few months thousands of miles away.
Cassie sighed and turned around, staring into Niall's bright blue orbs. "I'm just going to miss you so much."
Niall brushed his lips against Cassie's cheek and closed his eyes. "I'm going to miss you too, but Sean will be here to keep you company. I'll be home soon."
Sean Cullen, Niall's best friend, had promised to stay with Cassie anytime Niall wasn't home. This was clearly going to be one of those times.
A sudden knock on the door interrupted the couple's embrace, and Niall opened it quickly. "Hey, buddy." He grinned and threw his arms around Sean.
Sean laughed lightly and gently pushed his best mate off of him. "You're gonna be late, you crazy bastard."
Niall nodded in agreement and turned to face Cassie.
"I love you so much," Cassie's breath became uneven as Niall continued, "there's not a second that passes without you in my mind."
Cassie nodded, "I love you too, Niall."
Niall quickly kissed Cassie's lips and walked out the door without turning around. He always found goodbyes easier that way.
Cassie and Sean made their way to the couch and began watching a film.
A few hours passed when suddenly Cassie's phone began buzzing.
"Niall? You're flight isn't supposed to land for 6 more hours… What's going on?"
Cassie could hear people shuffling in the background, almost like a panic.
"Cassie… Baby, I love you. I love you so much. You know that, right?"
Cassie's eyebrows furrowed and she instinctively nodded in response.
"Of course I know, Niall. You sound so scared, babe. What's wrong?"
"Listen to me, there was never a second in my life that I didn't want to spend with you. I wanted to be with you forever. Only you. You're the only girl who I've ever been in love with. Nobody else could make me feel this way. I've never looked at another girl the way I look at you. Don't forget that, okay?"
"What's going on, Niall? Tell me right now, please."
"The plane is going down, babygirl. There's not much time… But I'll be okay soon enough. I'll be at peace. Don't worry about me. One day we'll be together again. Until then, Sean will take care of you. He's promised me this before. I love you so much."
Cassie's heart began beating uncontrollably, and she felt her eyes sting with tears.
"I love you, Niall. You're okay. Everythin-"
Cassie heard a scream followed by loud unexplained sounds. Then the phone went dead and the call was dropped.
