Based on an "Adventure Time" fan scenario of mine and on "Viva la Vida" by Coldplay, perhaps my favorite song. Chris Martin of Coldplay has said the song is about a king who lost his kingdom.

In an alternate "AT" universe, the Flame King still rules his realm. He wants his daughter Flame Princess dead because of the prophecy that she will lead to his downfall. So much so, he invades Princess Bubblegum's Candy Kingdom, where Flame Princess has fled.

Finn, who is only mortal, is killed by the king while the human boy is protecting Flame Princess. Finn's sacrifice gives her enough time to escape. The enraged king advances and destroys Bubblegum's city in search of Flame Princess. Bubblegum also escapes but now is on the run from the Fire Guard, the king's elite and vicious special troops. Their orders, as with Flame Princess, are to kill her on sight - as horrifically as possible. Bubblegum hides, filthy and hungry, in a forest. And she laments her fate.

It is a dark time in the world of Ooo.

Bubblegum's Lament

by

George Pollock, Jr.

I used to rule the world.

Syrup would rise when I gave the word.

Now in the evening, I sleep alone

In the woods I used to own.

I used to rule so nice;

See all the love in my people's eyes.

Listen as the song would come:

"Life is so good, oh, Bubblegum!"

One minute, I felt so free.

Next, the fires surrounded me.

And I discovered the Flame Kingdom stands

To conquer all Ooo's unfortunate lands.

I hear the sugar bells a-ringing.

The Banana Guard choirs are singing.

Be my sweetness, my flavor and feel,

My so-melted heart inside me reveal.

For some reason I can't explain,

Once Finn died, there was never,

Never a happy word.

But that was when I ruled the world …

It was the wicked Flame King's sin

To burn down the halls I once ruled in.

Shattered candy and the sound of drums.

People couldn't believe what we'd become.

I soon learned it was my fate

To slip quick through the kingdom gate

And that by myself I'm forever damned

To roam my ever so bleeding land.

I hear the sugar bells a-ringing.

The Banana Guard choirs are singing.

Be my sweetness, my flavor and feel,

My so-melted heart inside me reveal.

For some reason I can't explain,

I know only Death will call my name.

Never a happy word.

But that was when I ruled the world …

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I hear the sugar bells a-ringing.

The Banana Guard choirs are singing.

Be my sweetness, my flavor and feel,

My so-melted heart inside me reveal.

For some reason I can't explain,

I know only Death will call my name.

Never a happy word …

But that was when …

I ruled the world …
